My wife is retired and I'm still working so I'm the sole provider. But she still says it's all hers.

Actually, she says what's hers is hers, and what's mine is negotiable.

So I'm not the only one?

We went in for a loan to buy the tractor. Loan officer looks at us and says how much do you need? I start adding things up, price of tractor, implements, shipping from out east, etc... look at my wife and say, hmmm.... about $14,000. She looks at the loan officer and says we need $28,000 because she's getting a car!

Hahhahaa.... Really? Yep! O.K. I get a toy, she gets one, too.

In all seriousness, I can't see being married and keeping everything separate unless you have some sort of past history where it makes legal sense. Marriage is somewhat like a business partnership. You're both in it to succeed. Keeping secrets prevents that.

my wife and I always have had separate accounts
first 15 years or so I made 3/4 - 2/3 of the house hold income
last 5 years about 55-45%
she informed me that this past year she made more than me
I feel so embarrassed not to be the head bread winner (NOT)
told her to let me know when I could stay home and make sure dinner is ready and the horse stalls are all clean
she still gets a chuckle every now and then when I tell her that
