Not happy with Messick's re: purchasing the BX seat B1013.

$149.00 each for the seat. Well, fair enough although they used to be $38. Then $34.46 shipping....hmmm, just have to bear it.

Now I get a phone message that there is an additonal surcharge for having the seat shipped that "did not show up" on the website order. WHAT!

In my opinion, the deal made on the Internet order is binding. Now I get a bait-and-switch type reaction from Messick's. Fix the website or fulfill the purchase contract. If it cuts a bit into the profit margin, then so be it.

As a registered Messick's customer, and having recommended them for years here on TBN, I'm having second thoughts about doing further business with them. They used to impress me as being a stand-up company. I guess the little guy gets shafted in the final analysis.

Currently, they are closed and I can't return the phone message. But if the up-charge is not waved then somebody else can enjoy the seat. Mine is too sore from being screwed so I can't sit on it anyway.

I think you should talk to them first before posting a negative review.

Mine was a gift from my son in law so I don't know if he paid for shipping but I suppose he did.

Regardless of the outcome of a "talk", the business practice remains the same. I can't be undone. Perhaps waived. Perhaps revised. Perhaps retracted. But not undone. We will see what becomes of it.

OK, let me try to put it in perspective.

Would it make sense to buy a $15,000 tractor (which is a fair price for the particular model) and then be told it would cost $5000 to deliver it?

I wouldn't buy it and would hazard a guess that few would either.

Update:
Since Messick's was closed when I tried to call, an email was sent to them with the same information as in post #14. Below is the response. It confirms my past thoughts that they are generally a "stand-up" company.

As advised in Messick's e-mail, I will call first from now on for any item that is even slightly larger than usual to determine shipping rates. A post by Messick's some time ago also recommended calling for the shipping of small items that may not require their website's calculated full shipping costs. Lesson learned.

Thank you for your email. FedEx and UPS have now required us to calculate the dimensions of a package to find a total cost. The seat actually weighs about 25 pounds, however dimensional calculations of the box raise the weight to about 60 pounds. This is why you received a call from us about the increased cost of the freight. We are working to update our website to reflect a more accurate cost for this seat. I will honor our original cost that we quoted on our website for this order. Please keep dimensional thoughts in mind for any larger future purchases. Thank you for your business.
