Did finished posting comparable displacement power, torque and HP gas and diesel engines with the Ford Eco Boost 2.7 and 3.5 vs the Fiat VM 3.0 diesel. Why did you willingly ignore that info ?

There's a nice comparison of the Eco Boost 2.7, Chevy 5.3 and Fiat 3.0 in here....short version is the 3.0 crushed them in fuel efficiency by over 20% in real-world testing (even though the 2.7 was in a truck that weighed 1,000lbs less).

I thought often about DIS and multi port injection on an old ford. I have tinkered with a lot of 2.3l engines in ford rangers and enjoy working on them. The lift I was running today at work has a 2.3l engine in it that is the same engine in a ranger. They hold up, they power industrial equipment, they don't care about cold, and thanks to the EPA they would be cheaper and more simple to repair.

What is there to say? I've got a half million miles on my cars and I've never replaced one. Are you suggesting spark plugs can do that???

So big semi trucks should be using them then. You better tell someone.

If diesels suck so bad, then why is everyone researching HCCI .... a diesel engine that burns gasoline???

And why would anyone in their right mind come up with such a bastardization except it be the only way to satisfy some administration's (and EPA's) wet dream?

Why are so persistent in ignoring the light duty aspect of the topic. How can you even comment when you have no clue what is discussed? The light duty and HD applications have been discussed at length. What part of plain english do you not understand?

This kind of talk will get the thread locked faster than anything ;)

No way,, it didn't get the recent windmill thread shut down...... Oh Wait! Where is that thread?

Just because you think a CUT or SCUT falls under the "light duty" title doesn't make it reality. Light duty means cars and trucks operated at a fraction of their rated power. SCUTS and CUTs typically run around for hours on end at their rated power, or at least rated PTO speed which is a high percentage of their rated power. It's completely different from how cars and light trucks are operated.

This thread is about tractors, not cars or light trucks, but you refuse to stick to the topic...is that a lack of understand plain English, or are you trying to start another thread?

CUT are operated in light duty service compared to field tractors. Also they are used for much fewer hours per years than a primary field tractor. Nobody uses a CUT working at max power and max rpm from sunrise to sun set four months of the year. They mow the lawn, roto till the garden, use the loader to carry materials, use the backhoe to dig holes , run a pto generator 24/7 when loaded for a few hours before meal time.

Don't know where you dreamed up 20%. The Dodge diesel costs $1500 more in fuel over five years to drive the same distance as the gas trucks.

Gas here is 2.09 and Diesel is 2.79.

Using highway mileage,
It would take 45.5 gallons to drive the Ford 1,000 miles 45.5x2.09=$95.09
It would take 35.7 gallons to drive the Ram 1,000 miles 35.7x2.79=$99.60

Ventrac still uses some Gas engines - I have the 4231 Gas Liquid Cooled and the new 4500 series offers a B&S and a Kawasaki 31 Hp. Ventrac is low center of gravity, articulated, and made in Ohio.

I didn't think about Ventrac. I can't find any fuel consumption chart for the Kawasaki they use. I did find a good comparison between a gas and diesel ZTR, post 6.

Not categorically true.
