Good Morning. 0825, raining, 44F with 98% humidity. Forecast high of 57F with 100% chance of rain, and a low of 42F tonight. I have half a bundle {about 125} longleaf seedlings left, and was heading out the door to plant skips when the rain started. It's too cold for me to work in the wet, so I have to figure something else to do today. A good book and another cup of coffee sounds like a plan, but I do have shopping that could stand getting done. I will pour the coffee and see what happens. This is from yesterday.

18 this morning and headed to 33 today. Then slowly warming all week. 50 by Sunday. Wonder if that will change. Today is a mirror image of yesterday. I have my last half of birds leaving tonight. Now just need ground to stay frozen one more day. My drive can handle semi traffic when it's rain wet. It can handle car traffic on a thaw but not semis on a deep thaw. Just does too much damage. And it's not one its 20+ over 3or 4 hours.

That's a lot of truck traffic. I had 100K gross weight trucks taking wood chips out of here and they can beat a driveway pretty good.

You need to make the birds fly until the truck reaches the road.

Anyways, jokes aside, hope you get them all out tonight.

Larro, that looks really sandy. Do you need to add organic matieral or fertilizer?

48F and breezy this morning, headed for a high of 65F under sunny skies. Gladly trade some of this warm weather for precipitation, even if it's snow!

Kyle, I lit a fire in the woodstove, even though it is a PITA to put out in the morning so I can go to work...

Wood stove newbie here: How do you put out a fire in a wood stove?

I've got a handful of those chemical flare like things, but they're just for emergencies, right?

So far I've just been closing the dampers and leaving if I have a morning fire in the stove. Am I being careless?

I was down in Florida last week, and I took my mom's dog to the dog park. Seemed like every other person there was a Canadian, there is even a development there that flies a Canadian flag. One guy had 2 Newfy's , said even his furry dogs liked the Florida weather.

What's not to like about Florida weather this year? ;)

Most of the Canucks come down I-95 and end up on the east coast but there are lots here on the west coast as well.

I sure thought about staying home! Truck was tough starting too...after about 10 minutes of idling, it was OK. It was -21 or -22 when I left at 0500.

Yeah, I'd think about staying home myself! -22 would make me worry about things freezing up, even tho I have a modern house. I wonder if some communities are going to revise plumbing codes after the last 2 winters? Seems like a lot of folks having things freeze up that never froze up before.

9.9F and partly cloudy @ 11:00 after an overnight low of -9F ...

Temp upstairs was down to 64F ... the FPI was empty when I woke up a bit ago except for some coals hiding under a lot of ashes and the WBF's air inlet was blocked by a pile of ashes. Cleared that and threw a big chunk of pine on a nice large bed of coals, threw some ash in the FPI. The sun will help warm the house up today.

Suet feeders are both empty and the Nyjer feeders are getting way low ... so I'll have to tend to those in a bit.

Worked a little up in the shop last night on the log lift for the splitter ... got the frame finished, except for the attachment for the hydraulic cylinder. Also made the run to The Depot to pick up the correct-sized pipe nipple that I should have gotten first time around.

Was having a problem getting the shop warmed up - couldn't get it above 60F - so I called it quits around 01:00 and came down to the house and ate breakfast/lunch/dinner and went to bed in a nice warm room. Need to make the run to pick up more welding gas today ... gauge is reading 0 ...

Might try to get over to Pineridge's later to mill the wedge for the splitter.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive day.
