Ever seen logs made out of black walnut? That's about all I have that is large enough.

Jd if you was closer I'd take those "junk" logs off your hands. But since your not they actually make some very beautiful and expensive lumber and furniture.

me too...cutting that up for firewood is almost a crime;looks like chocolate in spots. Almost good enough to eat, well for a beaver...
It's like burning cherry; if one works in wood, a bittersweet enjoyment.
Burns quite nicely though. Particularly when it's really cold out...

I would not dream of using them for firewood only...but have cut up the broken branches over the years. The black walnut in the front yard is simply huge...as are another half dozen out back.

Another day of cleaning at the old building. Lots of old plaster, lath, and zillions of nails. Apparently they paid the carpenter by the nail!! I hit my head on a scaffold brace, walked right into it. Lost some skin, but otherwise ok. Lots of physical work, which is ok with me, I need the activity. Tomorrow, mor of the same.

Hard work never hurt anybody (notice the sarcasm here)

I enjoy the work, as a project. I wouldn't want to do it everyday, for very darn long!!

Drew I am needing to cut some cherry before the leaves come out. I have some that are over 20 inches. Very nice cherries. They are going to the mill and then to the barn for a couple of years. Then plan is to make the wife a new kitchen table out of them. She knows nothing of the plan. I just need to gather a few more tools without her knowing what I'm up to. I'll tell her about the tools just not the uses of them.

9.6F @ 21:00 ... an overnight low of -3F expected tonight and then -10F for the overnight low Friday night.

Had to pull the top off my X-Y milling table earlier today and take it over to Pineridge's to be able to securely mount the wedge on his lathe/mini-mill to reduce the chatter. Working fairly decently ... almost had complete planarity on the one side of the wedge that hadn't been machined until today ... but I had to knock off and come on home to tend the stoves before you know who got home. The other side is very close as well.

Mike got the log lift stand-offs/pivot arms drilled and the pins turned for the pivot yesterday, so I'll weld the arms on the frame in the morning and probably finish the splitter side brackets for the lift pivot. Once that's done I can figure out the attachment points for the hydraulic cylinder and get those welded on.

Might be splitting (hydraulically) before the weekend's out ...

Brought in the biggest round off the bottom of the ash tree this evening ... it will keep the WBF and the FPI fed for at least 18 hours.

Ran to HFT a bit ago and got the diamond wedge which broke replaced, picked up an ax while I was there.

Saturday looks like the first decent day to do anything about the condition of the driveway if I don't want to freeze my noogies off.

Got up early today so I'm gonna make it an early evening.

Hope everyone had a good day.
