Good morning, another frozen start to the day.
The sun has at last got some power in these last February days, frost should soon go.

Eric. What's your average rainfall?

We don't get great deluges of rain, it tends to be little and often. An inch of rain in a day is about as heavy as it gets and that is quite rare.

According to this map, we had a total of somewhere between 1 and 1.5 metres of rain last year. The Welsh mountains over to the West get a lot more.



One day I may get a weather station - and some dark glasses if it's as bright as txdon's Acurite.
For now I look in the puddle by the back door and just say, yep, raining again.

29 degrees on a thankfully clear day going up to low forties today.
I'm sure there will be a regression or two but I think the warmer weather is coming.
Prediction for 74 degrees here next Wednesday.
Good for warming one's bones...

still standing water on the lawns, will wait until tomorrow to start digging the holes for about 20 fruit trees.
Then Sunday my large size fireman helper will come assist in the planting, though frankly that's the part I like the best.

School kids here have missed a lot of days. They won't be happy in June if it keeps up.

Farmer, there is only one thing better than a home made sour cherry pie.
A table made of beautiful cherry wood. One just lasts longer...
We had several cherry trees in our farm orchard, mostly ravaged by the birds, but every once in a while we could pick
a pie's worth, and oh my. Sour cherry pie, little sugar added, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Yum.

Cherry trees don't seem to last that long, prone to rot at crotches and woodpecker bait.
Is the wood of an ornamental cherry significantly different than a "real" cherry tree?
Do sweet/Bing cherry trees have different wood graining than sour cherry trees?
Farmer, what kind of cherry do you have?

Personally I like the walnut better for the darker wood. However ladies generally like lighter wood so good choice Farmer.

0F now low 20's for high,tonight temps dipping -12F or colder.
Its been long week for some reason,must been the cold and attitudes.

2F & calm. Low 20's today with some clouds.

I think most cherry wood used for cabinetry and furniture comes from 'wild black cherry' which has red/cherry-colored wood except for a narrow white ring of new wood around the outside of the log.

Yep, the sun is getting high enough in the sky to have some heating power.

30 this morning high of 35 later today. Stayed up too late watching the movie " The Verdict " last night. Good movie

30 out this morning, high of 32 today. Warmer weather coming in next few days. UPS guy did me a favor yesterday leaving some nice tracks that quickly melted that snow we had on the driveway. No tractor time.

Got in a nice snowshoe hike yesterday and came home to find my driveway plowed by neighbor again. Took over a batch of brownies for thanks. Nice people.

Minus 7 degrees here...I am getting tired of this spell of bitterly cold weather!!!
