What I haven't figured out yet is how I'm going to refill the drum. Some guys take the empty drum to the local off-road diesel station. I'm not sure that's safe or legal. ...

It should be both safe and legal ... assuming you have the drum properly secured in the vehicle while transporting it ...

I used a 275 gallon plastic IBC tote when I built mine ... I think the minimum for delivery here from my supplier is either 100 or 150 gallons.

I also used a 12v pump from TSC (never have to worry about the power being out when you want to pump diesel :thumbsup Added a 12v accessory plug onto the power lead on the pump ... just plug it into the accessory outlet on the tractor.

Only thing I really need at this point to fully trick it out is an auto-off nozzle.

The paralysis has deepened so it's more difficult to eat and speak, but since I just talk to myself nobody's complaining too much. The eye lid isn't moving and the biggest issue is keeping my right eye moist. Eye drops weren't working but the doctor recommended ointment is doing better. I enjoyed a nice steak and a Guinness or two last night, so it's not slowing me down too much :laughing: Very glad it's still confined to the right side, but I wish it was easier to get the tape off my eye in the morning (doctor wants it taped shut for sleeping so it doesn't pop open and dry out). They must wake up in the middle of the night with ideas on how to torment their patients! :shocked:

Great to hear you can still sip the Guinness. Now you have me wondering, how would it taste through a straw ? Keep on smiling (at least on tbn!).

Not sure a straw would be any help, Eric, since my lips are so numb on one side they wouldn't hold the vacuum needed to suck anything through it. I end up tipping the glass so it all slides to the working side. The side still making half a smile, at least

One nice thing about the HF pump I mentioned earlier is that the alligator clips can be reversed at the battery to make it suck instead of pump. Comes in handy when the refueling is finished and you want to empty the front end up to the nozzle.

If you build a stand a touch higher than the fuel cap to set a 5 gal. jug on, you can siphon from that. Those shake or pump handle siphon gizmos work easy enough. Still have to put the jug up on the stand but no pouring in awkward positions. The lower portion of the stand could have shelves to hold three or four 5 gal jugs.

I have the shake siphon connected to about 3 metres of plastic hose (fishtank) Put the 5 gallon Jerrycan on the FEL; raise the FEL to just above the tank filler. do the jiggly thing to get started, make sure the siphon pick up is in the lowest corner of the can and raise the FEL a lot higher. Go away and have a coffee.

Good afternoon all. 16F this morning overcast light wind. Snow for the next 30 hours, 4-7 in (upped from 3-6 this morning). Fireplace is fed, birds are fed, cat is fed, SWMBO is napping . Also got some downed limbs picked up and ready for the fireplace. Van will not get replaced this weekend. Sinuses are are not draining as well as yesterday may get infected .
