Here's my situation. I bought a B2650 ROPS last spring along with a BH77 backhoe. I like it well, but after a cold winter, I've decided a cab model might be just the thing. My dealer want's $12,000 difference to trade mine in for a B2650 CAB model. Looking at spending that kind of money has me wondering if I should just spend more and go to the L series with a cab. The L3260ROPS will accept both the BH77 and the larger BH92, but the literature seems to indicate that the Grand L 3260 will only work with the BH92. If that's the case, I'd have to sell my BH77 and buy a BH92.

Can anyone weigh in on why the BH77 won't work with the Grand L? If it's just because it is small for that tractor, I'd be okay with that, but it may be that it physically won't work.

Lastly, for those who have been in both, how does the hydro noise of the B50 series (mine seems loud) compare with the L series, particularly with the cab models?

Thanks!

I think there is a modified version of the BH-92 that is shifted back slightly versus the standard model so there's room for the seat behind the back window on a cab model. Don't know if or when they might offer the same thing with the smaller hoe. Lacking that, there wouldn't be room to sit even if you could get the standard BH-77 mounted.

There was a post recently from a member here with either a 2650 or 3350 cab with practically zero hours, that he had to sell (for medical reasons I think). I believe he was located in your part of the country. Do a search and see if you can find that, as it would be a great deal. If I remember right, he tacked on his post to the end of an ongoing 2650/3350 thread.

As far as hydro noise, they are all about the same in my experience. However, there is a huge noise difference between operating with the correct gear/throttle/speed setting compared to pushing on the HST too hard. So I guess just make sure you are not pushing the HST treadle too far for the given gearing/throttle. It's a very common mistake by operators new to HST.

If pushing the treadle farther is making more noise, that is a sign you need more throttle or lower gearing, or just need to back off the treadle. It too is an effective gear selection, going into a higher gear the farther you push it. I have seen many new operators treat the HST treadle like the accelerator pedal on a car, pushing harder to go uphill for instance, and that is the exact opposite of what should be done. Doing that increases the noise and whine significantly.

Grandad4,
The BH-77 has a similar "spacer" that pushes the hoe out further from the tractor and provides a seat. That's why I was having a hard time understanding why it wouldn't work on the CAB model. Thanks for the input.

s219,
I understand what you're saying about being in the right gear. This is, I think, the 5th hydro Kubota that I've bought. I've had many other hydro powered mowers as well. I've never had one that is as loud as the B2650. It just seems that it really whines any time it's asked to move, regardless of gear selection. I have not driven the L series, so that's why the question about whether or not it would be quieter, especially in the cab model. Thanks again!

The HST "singing" comes from the hydraulic pump moving fluid under load. The smaller HST units seem to be more prone to such noise... I can very much tell that my little BX sings more than the much larger hydraulic circuit in the Grand L. Also, Kubota SUDT-2 hydraulic fluid will reportedly operate considerably quieter than either standard UDT or most non-OEM fluids, and if your rig was set up by a dealer who didn't use SUDT-2 for whatever reason, that could be part of the noise problem.

I had an older bh 90 for my 3130 and sold it with tractor when I bought the 5740 because they said it wouldnt work on a cab tractor. After getting the BH92 i only see a few differences. One being a curved stick, and the second is the spacer. I kick myself in the butt now because I think the BH90 would have worked. Just would have needed the spacer. I would order the spacer, put it on and try it. You will need a frame mount anyways for the tractor. Im willing to bet it would work.

I also bought the L2185 6' snowblower for my old tractor. Kubota said it wouldnt work. I bough anyways and guess what, works just fine. Im glad because after upgrading to the 5740, I would have sold the old 5' blower and bought the 6' blower because it handles it so well. I will tell you the BH92 is a beast compared to the 77 though.

Here's the spacer you are talking about for the BH92. I was doing some research to add a subframe and 3pt backhoe to my L3540 non-cab model. I was just interested to see if this spacer would bolt up to my BH and attach to the subframe I installed. Unfortunately, it won't work for me...now, if someone finds a part number for extensions that fit a BH77, I'll like to know about it!
