Good morning!!!!

I did this for a while and got the best results out of using 5 gallon fuel cans and dumping the fuel in the bulk tank every now and then. The bulk tank stayed in the barn and I rarely spilled any. Next best way is to tag on to a neighbors fuel delivery and they might deliver fuel to you. It's no problem keeping fuel and I kept diesel in New England for a couple years or longer. My diesel guy suggested using Stanadyne fuel treatment and I've been adding to the bulk container for 25 years and never a problem or gelling. I also added a filter/water separator on my bulk tank and that's probably saved me a problem.

55 gallon drums are legal. The hassle can be unloading a filled drum. Also, I planned on keeping the fuel station in the garage so I need to be able to move it around (a cart of some type) since I expect to store my implements in the garage too...and I want no possibility of tipping the drum.
I'll figure it out...you will too. Might be a few revisions on the way, but by Spring , I'll be using a fueling station rather then 5 gallon cans.

I don't want to keep that much fuel around...I'd estimate 50 gallons would last 4-5 months at most...and I don't want to carry summer blend into winter (not with our sub-zero temperatures!) if at all possible.

Coffee has been poured. 61° with overcast skies. Heading to 72° with heavy rain later in the day. Forecasters have been calling for some heavy rain for several days. But not much happening yet. NASCAR today.
Good Morning All.

Bovine extraction delayed due to weather. Initial survey confirms tractor grapple cannot be used due to steepness of bank.

txdon--I have done similar tasks using a fox/coyote trapping grapple. It looks like a two foot long three pronged fish hook and I tie a rope on one end and toss over the object to be pulled out. The hooks are sharp and catch on the underside or side of the object and then I pull to the edge with the rope I attached. Then I can get at it easier. A tow truck hook might work.

Here's a pic of a two pronged one off the net.

34 this morning and headed to 44 today. Rain has slipped in still about 2 inches of snow on the ground from 2 weeks ago. Plans for today put out hay and start washing chicken coops. Glad it's going to be warmer the next few days.

Roy, have you looked in Northern Tool? They have some barrel handling supplies. I think there's a clamp that would let you use a chain and your bucket to pick it up. Also think they make some dollies for them that stops tipping.

Drew. The 50 gallon transport tanks have a lifting eye. Then a couple of moving pallets from HF. With a pump. Then if you wanted to haul fuel to it in cans there wouldn't be any high lifting. Don't know about you but I have less trouble lifting fuel up to the tractor than I do my torpedo heater. When I get fuel up that high I'm standing straight and can hold it for a long time but bent over about two gallons and am hurting. Maybe it's my age.

"That is strange, you need therapy. I know what you mean though, it's not winter work when it's anywhere near freezing, just spring cleaning."

Almost what my wife said.. "your nuts" tho.

47F headed to a high of 65F under clear skies with nice breezes. The rain previously forecast for Monday has disappeared with nothing on the horizon until 3/10/2015. So much for March roaring in like a lion.

All this talk of fuel storage and dispensing systems, combined with a recent renewal of my homeowner's insurance policy which questioned if I was storing fuel on site, has me wondering if special insurance coverage is required or even prudent when keeping more than say 50 gallons of Diesel on hand. I wouldn't be too worried about flammability, but in this eco overreactive legal environment a spill of that size could result in a heck of a remediation bill, and even legal action by the Federal and State authorities. Has anyone experience to share in this area?

Check out the EDIT option. One of the items to click is DELETE.

Doesn't work. All I can do is change the text and save it. Clicking the DELETE button in the EDIT POST dialog brings up a DELETE POST button that doesn't do anything but return me to the list of posts, and that list still contains the duplicate. This has been going on a while here at TBN, and I thought the sys admins were aware of it...

I haven't used it recently, but checking the "Delete Message" box, then "Delete Post" has worked for me.

The dup post thing has been around forever. I take it it is not fixable.
