I did this for a while and got the best results out of using 5 gallon fuel cans and dumping the fuel in the bulk tank every now and then. The bulk tank stayed in the barn and I rarely spilled any. Next best way is to tag on to a neighbors fuel delivery and they might deliver fuel to you. It's no problem keeping fuel and I kept diesel in New England for a couple years or longer. My diesel guy suggested using Stanadyne fuel treatment and I've been adding to the bulk container for 25 years and never a problem or gelling. I also added a filter/water separator on my bulk tank and that's probably saved me a problem.
55 gallon drums are legal. The hassle can be unloading a filled drum. Also, I planned on keeping the fuel station in the garage so I need to be able to move it around (a cart of some type) since I expect to store my implements in the garage too...and I want no possibility of tipping the drum.
I'll figure it out...you will too. Might be a few revisions on the way, but by Spring , I'll be using a fueling station rather then 5 gallon cans.
I don't want to keep that much fuel around...I'd estimate 50 gallons would last 4-5 months at most...and I don't want to carry summer blend into winter (not with our sub-zero temperatures!) if at all possible.
