Until you need a police officer.Maybe you should walk a mile in there shoes? Remember respect is earned not given.
Just want to share. When I grew up in Southern CA, cops were just neighbors with jobs. You could joke with most of them like you'd joke with a friendly neighbor. Then things changed as SoCal and LAPD grew.
Then I moved north to Sacramento CA in 1983 when it was a very large small town. Cops again were mostly regular people and neighbors. Respectful and fairly respected. In 2012 when Sacramento cops had plenty of criminals in there own ranks and had shootings almost every weekend, I moved north to Southern Oregon.
Now I live in a rural state that is an open carry state. The cops again live in the neighborhood and are approachable and friendly. They wave when waved at and do not look down on civilians. They do not generally go around dressed in ninja outfits. Just uniforms fit for a cop. Around my hoe, they still serve the community.
It's a shame that the news media has made all cops look the same. When one bad cop or one bad department paint all LEO's in the same light. I feel sorry for the guys and gals in uniform in southern Oregon as in many other places. We still come to their aid when the stuff hits the fan. We have fewer murders in a year than Sacramento has on most any weekend.
I think it's important to remember that LEOs are just us with generally the same percentage of bad guys in their ranks as the general population. They are more likely to die on their way to work than as a result of their work. There are many, many jobs that are so much more dangerous than theirs. A good cop is a great man/woman. A bad cop unfortunately is often protected by their department.
This all or none is unfortunate.
My property where we're moving to is 45 miles from the nearest city which means cops are mostly report takers. But they are still nice to see coming down the road.
