Mowing BX mowing deck "gear box" oil change

I used a hair dryer to help get the old oil to flow better.

If you have a FEL or Boom Pole you can hang it like this to get a good drain. There still some mess however.

^^ this is my method - using the FEL, a bit of chain and a big catch pan.

the design and integration of the gearbox/deck combination are senseless - there is no good way to easily drain the gearbox without risking oil on the belt

i change it every other spring with synthetic gear oil

On my first time doing the gear box lube change, I asked the dealer service rep how they do it. He replied that they suck it out....something like Stanton's method I guess, but probably with some special vacuum device to speed it up.

The only problem I see with that, is if there are any metal deposits on the bottom of the gear box you may not get them out. I like to run mine a bit to stir things up, before changing it.

I take my mower deck off every winter to mount snowblower. I store mower on end, so it is perfect time on location to pull the drain plug to let the oil drain out. Check you manual, mine said to use SUDT2. Philip.

I changed my 60" mower oil for the first time last fall. I was not sure the best way to manage the job. I found on tractorbynet the two pictures I've attached. It seems like I can go every other season maybe ? as I do not use my mower that much at all (I use a push mower for exercise, most of the time)
-So can I go every other season? I might have a max now of 20 hours on the mower.
-Can I use Kubota SUDT-2 oil, my manual says SAE90 BUT so does the front gear box and that says I can use the SUTD-2 so??

Any opinions and facts on this please?

I have never heard of UDT or SUDT-2 in a mower gear box. Are you certain the manual is specifying SUDT-2 as an option for the mower gear box? My ZD326 calls for 90w gear lube only for the mower gear box. For Kubota tractors it is common to have gear lube or UDT in the front axle.

Sorry, My mower deck manual does not state I can use SUDT-2, my front axel fluid says I can use either so why can we not use either in the mower?
