Care to guess on a truck problem?

Good stuff  .

If your buddy is planning on keeping the truck around, suggest he coat the terminals he cleaned to seal out corrosion, if he didn't already.

There are a few discussion threads on here about what to use.

A couple of suggestions:

Permatex Dielectric grease

Electrical System Maintenance : Permatex

Even Fluid Film would be better than nothing.

Matters the most up here in Winter salt country. But, connections can/do corrode everywhere, and esp. near a coastal shoreline.

A lady that works in the same building had the hood up late last Friday night... her Dodge wouldn't start because it was stuck in park...

She was getting panicked because she was late picking up her kids and her husband works swing so there was no one to call...

I went back inside to my office and did a Internet search and sure enough there was a work around and was able to get her going...

I really love forums and the Internet for problem solving!!!

Life is even better when you whip your android smart phone out of your pocket, Swipe up and say OK Google! into it.
Or you can invoke that Siri lady if you are apple inclined!:)

You would be surprised the kind of problems that a good "OK google" can solve:)

You know just thinking about the neighbors truck, its hard for me to believe that a 2003 80k mile babied truck had some wire that wasnt making good contact because of corrosion. I mean we live in an area that doesnt use salt on the roads and generally speaking things dont just corrode like that around here, least Ive never heard of it. Its a typical case of "I learn something everyday."

Just wish he would have been able to isolate which exact connection or connects it was.

You are way better off than us in the frozen North. All electrical connections up here need to be coated.

However, heat+humidity are factors for corrosion, so you don't totally get a free pass.

It doesn't take much to get corrosion started - one trip to a salt-water boat launch will do it, or even just parking near the ocean for a while.

I have a 2004 Dodge 3/4 ton and had a similar problem. It started and ran fine but was starting to have some random electrical glitches. I also just cleaned a lot of contact and it fixed it. Age often affects that stuff more than the mileage.

Dodge was notorious for a 'no start' situation if the neighbours dog peed any where near it.:)

My 2012 Dodge Ram with about 80K on it is now on it's third Idler Arm, so I'm not sure anything is surprising to me with them. Since I had the repair done at two different dealerships (silly me thought it would be covered the first time at 60K), I don't think it's incompetence at the repair shop. Go figure.

High wear is common - watch the ball joints too. Try Moog if you haven't already, those front ends will chew up low cost parts fast.
