Lucas oil stanilizer

I don't know about the tests etc. but I stopped at a friends gun shop and he showed me the lucas oil stabilizer. He used it as a cutting oil. He chucked up a piece of 3/8 mild steel in the drill press and put a few drops of Lucas on a piece of steel plate. I put a lot of pressure on the thing spinning in the Lucas. It resulted in no heat, the same thing with motor oil would burn you. STP would not keep it cool, the same hot as oil. I know what I saw, more than snake oil.

Similar thing as the Timken Bearing Test or "one armed bandit" that it is called by many folks in the lube field. You can even make Head and Shoulders Shampoo out perform a top of the line synthetic oil if you know what you are doing. Check out this vid....

Dear Copperhead a lot of Lucas has to do with marketing if you see it everywhere some people believe. Remember the saying out of site out of mind. That says a lot about everything if you know what I mean. Myself I use AMSOIL & SCHAEFFER'S!

The thing is I did the test NOT him, and he recommended it for cutting tools in the metal shop.

I've used it myself, and liked the results. Nothing scientific. Just personal preference.

Some people swear by it, others swear at it.

YMMV

I put it in my 2001 F250 7.3L at an oil change at ~ 100,000 miles. Within 30 miles I started having hesitation and starting problems where I had never had issues before. I was running Rotella 15W-40. I immediately changed the oil and again (takes almost 4 gallons) and all the issues went away--That was enough for me! I now run Rotella T6 (straight!) and she is purring right along with no issues, almost a quarter million miles with no significant engine issues. Though I may try it for drilling steel!
