Like to see what you are doing with a tooth bar.
I have a Ratchet rake and wonder if a tooth bar
will expand my capabilities?

And, who makes a good tooth bar attachment?

Depends on your application. Virtually ALL of my soils in Mississippi (~400 acres) are sandy loams, rocks are rare. I've a Piranha mainly to help with brush clearing at and below the soil line.

Remember, it's a Front End Loader, not a dozer blade or backhoe bucket.

It helps to dig in "hard" soil... concentrate all the force on the teeth to break up the soil. You can't dig with a Ratchet Rake. I have both and the Ratchet Rake is good for smoothing out, finish grading. Tooth bar is good for digging out rocks, helps with a bucket grapple to hold a little more brush.

tooth bar can:
strengthen bucket lip, keeping it from smiling
provide points for attaching chains for lifting
let you pop rocks out of the ground because one point will dig in and focus the entire FEL force/leverage
increase the capacity of the FEL bucket by about 1/3 to 1/2...my estimate
extend the lip allowing logs/rocks to be chained onto the fel and be moved in a way not allowed by smooth bucket lip
dig into hard ground
dig into a pile of material which has settled/solidified over time
dig into a pile of rock/rubble allowing a full bucket to be obtained

although I can remove my tooth bar, I have done so only once in all my years of tractoring....to me the tooth bar doubles the FEL usefulness, don't go tractor'n without one!!

When pushing and manipulating logs and branches, it gives you something to wedge into those spaces and raise, lower, capture or drag them around. Same for any loose material or debris.

My B21 does not care if you use the bucket as a dozer.

How handy are the fingers on your hand?

Not only would I pay full price for one, I would pay double, easily.

Any advise on what brand to buy?

And how useful are your fingers without a THUMB? :)

That's a whole new can of worms. Since your in Connecticut you may have rocky soil, glacial till, clay or sand. I've read big teeth for big rocks. In my soils Piranha is the way to go.

Then there is the decisions on bolt on vs weld on, cost, shipping, support (tooth replacement).

What's your soils and budget?

Is it necessary to remove your old cutting edge to install the tooth bar or does the the tooth bar fit over the cutting edge?

Soil is an assortment of materials-clay, hard pan, rocks of all sizes, etc..

Would like to get a bar that does the job without spending a whole lot of cash.
