So, why does fracking create toxic water in Pennsylvania wells?\Crearly what "seems" to be logical is not the way it "seems" to be. The answer is that the theory is wrong. It is not the way it seems to be. It is way more complex than what we think. Given the very complex hydrology of the earths strata. it is beyond the furthest reach of our current understanding to predict what may happen to the chemicals injected under huge pressures into the strata. Fluids, under pressure will go wherever there is a lower pressure. It is for these reasons that there is not much agreement about the safety of our aquifers, (except among those who advocate fracking for profit. I do not trust industry to always act responsibly... but I do know that fracking chemicals are toxic..and that no one really knows what will happen, or where these chemicals will eventually wind up. I also know that there are real cases where drinking water has been contaminated... and that it cannot be removed once well water has been rendered undrinkable. Water, potable water, is too precious a resource to tamper with, in the way that fracking OG interests seem to think is safe. It simply is not proven to be a safe bet and what may happen is far too serious to find out the hard way.

For those who do not agree, just take a serious look at what has in fact happened. Period.

You will all be relieved to know that I can say no more to persuade the use of caution and common sense in the matter of fracking than I have already said. That is why, In some parts of Canada, fracking is banned, as it should be. Goodnight, nurse.

See post 41. The problems in those wells existed long before fracking in the area.

... but I do know that fracking chemicals are toxic...

Really - what is in the fracking chemicals that is toxic? Are you saying our EPA is not doing its job and allowing toxic chemicals to be injected into the ground?

Not sue where you get your information from, but not ONE water well has been contaminated by fracking, if you know of one the greens would love to talk to you. When the U.S. senate herring was held, not ONE example could be referenced. The greens have searched for years, not one can be found, if you have the proof and example, a billion dollar lobby would like to hear from you ASAP. HS

I brew beer. Well, I do when I have the time. <sigh>

Years ago I was reading up on water quality on a beer making website. Water is a VERY important part of beer and some brewers will treat their water to mimic the water in a brewery, say in Germany, to try to produce a similar tasting beer. I don't do this but it is interesting reading.

I came across a post from a well driller who finds gas in some of the water wells he drills. He will fill plastic grocery bags with the gas from the water well and light them on fire so they go boom.:laughing::laughing::laughing: Fracking was not the cause of the water well gas.

Later,
Dan

As a precaution, if a oil or gas well was going in near me, I would have a lab do a full workup on my well and pond water just so I have a baseline, but my bigger concerns would be noise and the proper construction of the outflow ponds...

I am not disagreeing with you because I know a few people who had gas coming up with their water from wells - oil used to just flow out of the ground, gas used to and still does seep out of the ground. By digging wells and pumping the oil and the natural gas we should be minimizing the natural releases of these hydrocarbons and therefore helping the environment - right?

I would do this - it costs little and is a good basis in case there are any issues in the future. I am sure the OP does not have any control of who is doing the work and how they are doing it so to have a baseline for potential future issues is good insurance. his neighbors should do the same.

You can find those reports as back as the 1600's. NG is natural and seeps to the surface and into ground waters all over the world. Has nothing to do with fracking. HS

Lets see, who do we believe? those that live among the shale wells, or someone in another country that repeats the false anti o&g claims. Thousands of wells drilled and hydraulic fractured without any water well contamination in the area I'm from.
