Grid-tied solar

Every week I seen a new PV install going up in the neighborhood... some are putting in small arrays and others large enough to charge their Nissan Leaf or Tesla...

Using off grid energy for charging vehicle batteries has interesting connotations. How is the government gonna tax the electricity used??

Talk here is road user charges for EV's. X number of cents per km travelled.

Doing pilot programs for all cars here... if it moves... tax it.

Not sure how that will play out on some of my older cars...

EV already have carpool privileges with single occupants which account for a large portion of sales.

I know several Doctors that have office and home solar and drive electrics...

Until there is a significant number of people doing that, I don't see this being done. But there are Gubbamint workers out there dreaming up ways do do just that.

Truth is that roads are designed for big trucks and automobile volume. Much of the cost in road construction stems from the weight of the trucks the roads have to be designed for, not from light economy vehicles. Unless you are in a big city where you need more lanes for automobile volume, taxing a non polluting, off grid powered vehicle is hard to justify. Not that some Gubbamint worker won't dream up ways. Then the low information type oil industry supporters will vote in new regulations to penalize the high information off grid self supporting types.

Discussing how people use their grid tied solar, charging cars for example, is fair game, and was brought up by someone else. That brings up the question of how they pay their fair share of road taxes, since they don't use gas or diesel, and hence don't pay road taxes, but use the road that gas and diesel sales taxes pay for. I only bring up the whining of electric car use to show its not really an issue as their numbers are dropping. Some people just have to have the dots connected for them. HS

Grid Tied power and all power is getting a second look in my region.

All of the daily newspapers and local new ran a story that the entire way Electricity is billed in California is about to change...

The tiered price structure to encourage conservation where those at the top pay more than double those at the bottom is driving away the best customers... just as one would expect when paying 32 cents a kWh...

The solution is seen as increasing a minimum charge for all accounts and and eliminating the top and bottom tier to retain larger customers and make small end users pay more...

Careful what you ask for...
