Heck of a load at what? 3-4 MPH? If his tractor is geared right, and can go 1.5-2 MPH it isnt going to be any more load then your 70hp @ 3-4mphMy 10' MX10 3pt mower is a heck of a load for my 70pto hp tractor unless I'm only knocking off a couple of inches of growth.
Depends on what you are measuring for your speed reference. Will the 10' be able to go as fast measuring ground speed, no. Will it go just as fast measuring acres per hour, yep. Personally I would rather go slower with a bigger cutter. Smoother ride. The answer to your question really depends on what you are trying to do but a 37 PTO HP tractor should be able to handle a 10' mower given the right conditions but you won't be mowing as fast as if you have 7' mower.
i will throw my 2 cents in....when I bought my MX15 last year the dealer only had a 45 horse tractor (new Deere) on his lot to test the unit with and it diid not have enough power to even start cutter turning.
I do not believe this at all. Either the dealer was doing something wrong (engaging too fast), or there was something wrong with the mower, or this is just made up.
Basically two schools of thought on a mower. Big and slow, or small and fast. IF you feel you "lack" power if you are unable to cruise at 6-7 MPH while cutting, then get a small cutter. IF you are fine going 2 MPH, you can go about twice as big as what most people consider normal.
