This is the mess on the west side of those hostas ... there are at least 3 (maybe 4) oak saplings in there, growing up through the rhododendron that I'll try and transplant, plus a couple of ashes that will get tossed.

As the 'Cake and I were weeding she became very frustrated with the oaks and said "Go get that shrub bucket ... NOW !"

Sorry honey, no can do ... need to prep before we dig 'em out.

The rhododendron itself has at least 8 or so trunks that appear to have come from low branches that rooted themselves. Gonna try to remove it, split off the ones that have rooted, and transplant all of them ... since it's almost into the electric service feed.

Doing so will be a real treat no doubt ...

Internet is back up, yea.

WOW! that was a storm this afternoon - 4" of rain high winds and hail. (thats after 3.5' yesterday).

A lot of Austin is flooded this go around.

I'm on an Island again except this time the water is 2' higher and the island is getting smaller.
My spillway is like a river.
The roads are flooded more than yesterday. I just hope after the water goes down the gravel road is still there.

A measly 4"...we got 5" over here by bull frog creek headwaters.

RS, had a 40' digger pine hanging over the garage when I bought the place. The neighbor had his 'dozer and backhoe over clearing brush, and offered to help take it down. A chainsaw and cable made short work of the tree, but the stump proved more resolute. It was rooted into the stone, and he spent a good four hours breaking down the flakes enough to get it out. I think the hole went down close to 8' before the tap root finally broke off.
Yikes ...

Knowing what I know now I'd have taken a page from your book and cut it off a couple feet below ground and called it good.
Pretty sure that's the way I'm headed ... that eastern red cedar was about 3' or 4' (at most) to the north of the entry point of the water line coming from the well into the house.

The line enters the house about 1' or so off the basement floor ... which should put it about 5' or 6' below the outside grade ... but I have no way of knowing how deep it is, all the way back to the well.

Best to just cut it off a foot or so below grade and call it done.

No need to borrow trouble ;)

Good luck on tracking down that oil leak

Poured first cup of coffee. 59° with some clouds this morning. Heading to 81° with mostly cloudy skies and chance of thunderstorm late in the day. Got some heavy rain and winds yesterday. But for only 10 minutes. Got to get working on weeds in the gardens. That should keep me busy most of the day.
Good Morning All.

60 heading to 85, slight chance of rain..need some, but not what you Texas guys have...hope you'll be drying out soon.

Roy, you're hotter today than we are down here.

Son in New York coming down on the train today. He'll be riding the same curve near Philly where the bad train wreck occurred...such a sad tragedy.

Rs, great looking grounds at your place. Seems like your hard work is paying off.

Don, sorry that beautiful view is temporarily blocked.

I took the Mantis tiller out for the first time this season to run between the tomato, eggplant and jalapeno plants yesterday...I had to replace the carb two years ago due to ethanol gumming, I guess...nearly started on first, and did on the second pull. So, I'll swear by that expensive pre-mixed ethanol-free gas and oil in a can. I don't use that much so each year, so I'm not complaining. Can't find ethanol-free gas at any nearby gas stations here.

good morning all. RS, great pics, love the moth.
61 degrees going up to 85 today.

young helper coming today, will get him to weedwack.
I have errands to run until afternoon; need to get my almost new Ariens trimming mower into the nearest Ariens warranty shop, as apparently a stick got up into the drive mechanism, jammed a pulley, the belt wore the plastic pulley into something no longer round and eventually the belt flipped off. Less than one year old, maybe 20 hours on it, three year warranty. Nice Kawasaki engine on it, the single cylinder one with an oil filter, but without self propulsion, it's seriously hard to push since it's so heavily built. In hindsight, I should have stuck with a small Honda trimmer with the plastic deck; super easy to push and maneuver. Instead I went with the heavy duty alternative and wish I hadn't.
Disappointing for a commercial grade mower but at least covered, I hope, under warranty.
