There are 14,000 know uses of salt.
At one time it was more valuable than gold.

What is a common metal today at 1 time was worth more than gold.

Not talking about iron or steel, which in the long run are more useful than gold.

I would say copper or brass.

There are now trains that can go over 300MPH.
But in the days of steam engines what was the speed record for steam power????

At 1 time aluminum was more costly than gold. Guess I should not have said more valuable..

I believe the official record is around 120mph. but there are numerous stories of trains exceeding that, measured by time between points. They didn't meet conditions needed for an official record.

This should be easy for some of the old timers:

In the 20's and 30's, the term "Knee Action" was applied to which component of an automobile?

I remember reading about the first steam train that broke 100 mph. They used a flat straight stretch of track out in the plains somewhere, probably Kansas and a stop watch as they passed the mile posts.

Back in the 80's My brother-in law was in the air force and received a new assignment. Officer told him that he was joining the "Spittin Kittens" and that there was good news and bad news. The good news was that where they were based there was a beautiful woman behind every tree. The bad news was that the state tree was a telephone pole.
Where was he going?
