Oil & Fuel Adding a Spin on Racor filter to a BX25

/ Adding a Spin on Racor filter to a BX25 #161
Good install.. You'll be happy you did it. You really got to try to get the filter as close as possible to the loader support tube to clear the tire, thats really the only thing to watch out for.

Thanks Scooby and you are exactly right. My first attempt I had it too close and as I was going up a hill while making a hard left, it caught the valve at the bottom of the filter and slightly bent the bracket. Luckily I was going slow and stopped right away. I redrill holes and made sure I was far enough away. Initially I thought had the clearence but I guess not. thanks again for all the help.

 Now to get Kubota to realize that their factory BX filters are a cruel joke, and they should be putting something a little better than a $5 snowmobile filter on a $20,000 tractor!!!;)

Here is my Racor. I made a stainless steel bracket that slides in between the front left floorboard mounting area. Just take out the one carriage bolt holding the floorboard, slide in the bracket, and but the bolt back through and tighten it.

nice! been wanting to add one of these for a while - this looks like a good protected location. tough to find free space on those little machines.

I really struggled with mine when I put it on. My fabrications skills are a little weak but you pretty much have to mount it as far back as possible or the wheel will get it. I also had mine to far forward and the wheel actually open the drain valve on mine while I was mowing.

Not sure if that would work for the newer 70 series as they have the brake on the left. But it works like a charm for my 60 series BX25. Tucks in high and tight BEHIND the loader arm. No tire interference issues at all.

Any of the guys who installed the Racor filter have any issues with the filter leaking out of the valve at the bottom. Leaking and don't want to tighten the valve too much in fear of braking it. It was fine for the first month.

I've had zero problems with mine and have not needed to replace the filter yet after I think two years. No crud/water accumulation in the bowl. I've just burped it a few times since I was already down there looking and it seemed like a good idea.

No problems here. You should be able to make it snug enough by hand. No dirt or anything preventing a good seal?

Same here.

Even with the Racor up front, you still need a pre filter for the fuel pump don't you to prevent dirt fouling the pump?

I plumbed mine with fuel lines that run up front to the Racor from the tank, them back to the fuel pump, so the Racor is plumbed before the pump. At first I plumbed it after the pump just because it was easier and then on the advice of others on this board changed it.

Would the B Series Kubota tactors also benefit/"need" a similar filter improvement "fix"??? Or does the B series have a better factory set-up? Thanks Tom R

The lift pump could be susceptible to debris, but im willing to take that chance (its a relatively large clearance, non percision pump). Its not that expensive of a part if it goes. Its the injection pump to be worried about.

The B has a considerably better filter, however, its still not as good as the ones were installing on the BXs IMHO. Considering that, the B could do with an upgrade too, but its not nearly as bad out of the box as what comes stock on the BX.

Every fuel pump I've ever pulled out of a vehicle had at least a fuel pump strainer before the pump. The added hose I used to run from the tank to the fuel filter added up to about 2.5 feet and my cost on that would be around $2.00. The photo I attached is the crap that came out of the filter on my BX at 70 hours. Imagine that stuff going through your pump.
I bet you won't replace your pump for $2.00 Then there's the down time on your tractor because of it. They usually don't brake down in the shop either ;)

AMEN to THAT Paul...!
