I am looking at those squashed front tires on the 5055 and agree - it is a little heavy for that tractor. Nice log!

I was looking at that pic thinking "thank God I drove to BFE, SD. to fetch my 5065e with the R4's."

i would love to have r4s on the front for loader work and ags on the rear, bu the dealer doesn't like to sell them that way. don't know if i could even fine r4s that would come close to matching the r1s height. i only really want the r4s 10% or less of the time so i make do

The ratios are wrong the way our tractors are set up. I wish I could have the fat R1's they have on some of the M's on the front of mine.

I like to save even the smaller branches but it can be a real PIA to cut them up. Using some ideas from this site I made a saw buck of sorts out of some scrap 4x4s and 2x4s. I also added some wheels so that I can move it around the property. There is a small tongue on the front for a pin connection to the back of the lawn tractor.

The setup allows me to stack branches into the rack and then cut a bunch all at once. The 2x4s act as a guide so that they are all about 18 inches. It also prevents the branch from kicking out.

Is that also known as Bois d' Arc?

BTW, for those that don't know it is pronounced "bowedarc". If so, you have some of the hottest burning wood there is. I would love to find some.

I am working on a pretty big maple way down by the mailbox. Everyday when I go get the mail I bring some of the tree home with me on my carry all. This is how I handle big rounds. Big for me anyway :)
Put the splitter vertical and break them down into blocks I can easily manage in the normal horizontal mode.

Absolutely, some people also call it Hedge. When it's time to split, it has to be strategically placed in the wood pile. I would not want the wife to build a big fire out of that solely.

Piling up windfalls, I made a 100 yard clearing and a 40 foot long burn pile. 1/2 mile of lakeshore to go!

That's a cute pile Eric. Someday it'll grow up to be a big one. :p

j/k! Looks like a great day for A/C in the cab.

Eric that pile makes your tractor look small.

You keep mentioning lake shore but I can't remember seeing you post any lake pictures, maybe I missed them. Is MN like VT in it's lake shore restrictions in that you are not allowed to clear or significantly thin along a shoreline and any cutting at all in general requires a DNR permit ??
