Box blade, roll over box blade, or land leveler????????

They actually did a pretty good job of getting the dirt off those stumps before putting them in the burn piles, they picked them up high with the track hoe and dropped them. Not all the dirt is gone but most is.
I'll look into other landplanes but budget is a factor here too, and this will be a one time job for me.

I think what jenkinsph meant about stump holes is that the hole generally has non-packed soil. So you'll be driving along and suddenly your tractor is sitting on its floorboards. 4WD is no help at that point.

Please don't ask me how I know about such things. ;)

Getting a landplane on loan, or rented, would be you best option given that you'll do the job once.

Here is mine. $50 on eBay. I was the only bidder. And, yes, it was a nightmare to haul it to the farm.

hunt4570,
You might consider having a custom operator smooth this out too. There are lots of farmers that might be able to help with this in their slack time.

Another option if you have welding facilities is building your own land plane grader scraper. I have built two, a 4' and an 8' and they average about $100/ft of width with new reversible blades.

Here are pictures of an old apple orchard that I had to dig stumps out of then grade for proper slope (flood irrigated). The first picture is after tilling and box blading, the second is after the grass was up this year.

Good find GW!!!!! You are in it so cheap it won't bother you to sit it in the fencerow to only be used occasionally. Perfect solution!!!

Wow, that's outstanding!!
The more I think about this I'm thinking a landplane w/rippers from Everythingattachments.. I do have these fields to do, but I also have about 1 1/4 mile of "service " road around my place so this may be the way to go. About $1600 so I want to make the right choice the first time!

Okay, I have to ask---What in this picture is supporting the tongue and holding it in the upright position shown? I'm fairly sure that it isn't the log chain.:)

It is a bit difficult to see, but a chain is attached at the post at center/top of the blade. A ratchet load binder was used to go over the roller and, by tightening it, the tongue was raised. Before it got too high a chain was hung on the front of the tongue.

When the tongue was at the height to not stick out beyond the tires, then the chain attached to the front of the tongue was cinched down. It made for a tight setup. Fortunately, the Highway Patrol was not encountered on the way home.

It did take me a while and some head scratching before figuring out just what to do.

Edit: Here is a photo from the other direction to show what was described above.
(OP, sorry for the hijack!)

Sweet. Everyone loves their land planes. I do, and I've only found about an hour to play with it...
