Annoyed by dirt bikers?

I always tie streamers to the chain...

The park district has lots of simple welded pipe gates and a few trails secured by cable between two pipe posts... no reflectors, paint or streamers...

I got rid of all Poison Oak... it was my goal and took several years... my trails are groomed and very driveable in my Samurai...

Several years ago, a few teens were riding dirt bikes on our Farm. They came from a few miles away where they had land but their parents wouldn't let them ride there because of the mess they caused.

I went out and asked what they were doing? They said just having fun.

I said fine, but I bet I am a better rider than any of them.

They said no way.

So, I borrowed one of their dirt bikes and we had a race. I accidentily crashed the bike into the woods.I was able to hop off just in time. Did quite a bit of damage.

They were horrified! You destroyed my bike! Sorry. It was an accident. You were destroying my property so we are even.

They never returned.

It works both ways.

For those of us that live in CT finding a place to ride is always a challenge. Dirt Bikes and ATVs are not allowed anywhere on State Property so we need to find Private Property. The State does require an Off Road Registration for your dirt bike. I don't see how riding the power lines or old logging roads hurts anyone. As long as you are not damaging private property.

In CT too many people think State Property is for their own exclusive enjoyment. They do not like to share.

I used to ride in State Property leased to a local corn farmer. If you stayed out of his fields he would leave you alone. He was known to keep a shotgun loaded with rock salt. At 40 yards it wouldn't kill you but could hurt like ****. This was back in the 80s before everyone got so litigious. If you complained to the cops the would give you a ticket for trespassing and impound your bike.

Back in the day, thats what my riding buddy would say, as i kicked his ***** on thru the gears, then on the straight away, i'd hear the 4 stroke coming closer and closer, then pass me by. :) good times!

I never understood people's obsession with 2 stokes either.
A state of the art 4 stroke engine works just fine. Quieter also.

Pachaug State Forest is the only large forest I know of in CT which permits legal off road. I think you need to be plated though, like a dual sport. But I'd guess they would let a minor explore with a little bike accompanied by an adult if you asked the ranger. Only been there a few times, but everyone appeared to be super mellow.

Missouri has quite a few private and a few public off road places to ride: Missouri ATV Trails

I have trails on my land. I like them pristine, pine-needle covered, smooth, narrow & difficult, and no ruts. I use them to just "take in my land" not for performance riding.

I would NEVER allow people I don't know on my land. Squids on 55 horsepower bikes tear up trails, make their own hillclimbs as they see fit. And so do many experienced riders. Here and there are good guys who know how to ride a nice trail, but not the general dirtbikin' public. Also I don't want them pokin' around, taking note of what I have or telling loser friends what I have. My trails do NOT appear outside my boundaries so they are not likely to find them. I certainly don't want them integrating my trails into their training course. I'm not insured against their lawyers , and can't fence, and don't want to. Many many reasons. Haven't had much trouble yet so I still do a lot of "hoping".

I have a gate that I made to look exactly like a Forest Service gate. A "plus" is people know its strong. "Minus" is they might think it's public land,,,,, so I attached the private prop sign right on the gate.

My private property signs disappeared near the end of the first hunting season (after I bought it). I replaced them and still there 4 years later. I suspect it was someone who "always hunted that land" in the past. In general hunters I've met have seemed honorable, and I can kinda sense those who are not.

I never understood people's obsession with 2 stokes either.

Off topic but this thread is way off topic. You have to ride it to understand it. Light weight, easy maintenance, and a high performance 2stroke can be quieter than a high performance 4 stroke. I have some 2 strokes; some 4 strokes, like them for different things. Hear lots of dirt bikes in my area, the 4-strokes sound carries much farther, have to "listen up hard" to hear the 2-stokes. I'm referring to "lower rpm riding" on trails.

Well, my 2 strokes are super old. My new 4 stroke is just a putt around dual sport. I'm too old now to take advantage of the new high tech 2 strokes with things like closed course competition. I think your correct though though, 2 is technically quieter but somehow the note sounds more aggressive.
