Do you have a reading disability? Or it a fixation on "dirt bikes dumping mattresses"?You know **** well if the guy who was reckless with the firearm was posting anomously ranting with tall stories about dirt bikes dumping mattresses and the like, his posts would be virtually indistinguishable from yours.
mentioned 4 wheel drive trucks. I don't actually know how they got the mattresses and beer cans there. We've got about 300 acres. They had existing logging roads and power ROW. How about the young people learn to WALK or BICYCLE through the woods and not litter?
I've one parcel that had a nice little logging road running about the length of the property, right down the middle. About 100 yards in it is now impassable due to 4 wheel drive trucks "hogging out" slight mud holes. The woods are dense enough on either side that they can't get an ATV between the trees, so access to the rest of the acreage is denied. I've another parcel where they must have had competition because the logging road is eroded so deep it's above my head. I find occasional "party camps" with discarded mattresses and cases of beer cans (it's a dry county) plus evidence of lightly attended bonfires. I'm dreading the day when I get the call that 100 acres just burned because "for the sake of the youngsters" I didn't scare them away.
For a minute I thought that you were talking about Harleys on public roads... Then I reread. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of a well tuned bike; but when a guy is sitting next to you with straight pipes, grinning at you while revving the engine waiting for the light- as he's wearing ear plugs-Of road vehicles would not be anywhere near as offensive if they were not so loud, Not That it matters, if you don't want someone riding anything across your land, you have every right, and even an obligation to prosecute.
Few people who ride off road have not had there engines jetted and piped for performance ...that means extreme noise.
Anyone who pursues a hobby that causes that kind of noise, is asking for trouble when they chose to execute their hobby on someone's else's property.
If you think someone should allow you to do that on their property without compensation...you're an idiot.
That's a given. There is no room for argument.
As a side note.....
I live in a state that allows air boats in public waterways. Have you ever heard an air boat? It's stupid loud....permanent hearing loss loud. PTSD loud. You can hear an air boat from 5 miles away. Why this is legal....I have no idea.
I have ridden my share of dirt bikes (on public land) and I have come to realize that there is a commonality to those who pursue this long term. They have no regard for anyone's sensibilities other than their own. They just like to p"s people off.
Want to detail the year and location of that incident? This the one?Years back, in a sorta nearby county, a landowner was having problem with people riding ATV's on his land. He had put up no trespass signs, and I think talked to the people breaking the law, none of which worked. He put up a cable across where they were accessing the property....
One of the riders lost his head.
I don't know if there was ever a civil suit but there was no criminal charges filed the last I had heard.
Later,
Dan
From the story: "An Upper Keys man died July 4 in North Carolina the day after riding an all-terrain vehicle into a metal cable that someone slung across a path between two trees. But the Swain County (N.C.) Sheriff's Office said it is not investigating despite the possibility of malicious circumstances surrounding the man's death."
What about a sign "Poison Oak, pass at own risk?"First order of business when I bought my place in California was to clear the forests of poison oak... no exaggeration.
A few months later the folks that sold me the place asked how things were going.. told them I was getting a handle on the poison oak... he voiced that I should have just left it.
Back in the early 60's there were problems with people following the little creek so he made an effort to encourage the poison oak and it worked...
Sure enough.. people have discovered my trail network... and it's better than the parkland adjacent.
If I wasn't so susceptible to poison oak... I would have and should have left it.
