Still remember when Dad found a full pickup truck load full of every imaginable kind of trash dumped down a ravine on our property... he called the police when he found mail with address labels... officer came out and said the letters were not enough... to add insult to injury... officer said was had to remove the trash or we would be cited... since it was near a seasonal creek...
It's not hard to understand why landowners having been burned once are the way they are...
When the land to our west was subdivided, the property line was cleared so that a pickup truck could drive down the line. When I saw that the the line was cleared, it intersects our property line at a right angle, I walked the line to see what was happening on the parcel. The parcel had been subdivided in multiple lots, which we knew was happening, but they had also created a nice gravel road. The line had been cleared for a short time but someone had alread driven either truck or tractor down the line and dumped trash.

When I got out to the road someone had dumped not one, but two, heavy hydraulic jacks that had been bent. I think they were 4 tons or there about.
What is so stupid about this trash dumping, is that people can take their trash to the collection center for NO extra charges. The center is paid for with property tax so anyone living in the county has access! These idiots spent more time dumping trash than going to the dump. There are only two grocery stores in town and both are within a thousand feet or so of the collection center. They have to go to those stores and it would have taken them only a few minutes to drop off the trash legally. They spent more time driving off trail than it would have taken them to go to the dump

MORONS.
I keep our land posted for privacy, lower liability and to try to prevent dumping. I was working in the garden one spring and two idiots on ATV's went down that property line and onto our property. They went right by a no trespass sign that there was no chance to miss. I am pretty sure these were the people who did the dumping. I yelled at them and they left. Two different idiots used that same cleared property line to trespass and "hunt" on our land. The ^&*((&@ were just shooting into squirrel nests.

They were also shooting in the direction of our house and/or neighbors.

I had been working the yard and my kids were playing in the yard when these morons where shooting. These idiots had ignored the same sign and could see the house but that did not stopped them. They were also shooting at the neighbors houses they could not see. We had a one way conversation and they have not been back. They did try that "I have been hunting this land with my daddy for years." lie and I called them on that quick and shut them up.
Thankfully, houses were finally built on those lots which has controlled that access for trespass.
We have had people dump used kitty litter on our place a couple of times. :confused3: I think/hope it was kids that were supposed to go to the dump but who knows. At least that degrades quickly. A few years ago some $%^&*() dumped a trash bag by tossing into the woods near our gate. I heard the guy drive up to our gate on a Friday, I think he was a contractor working a nearby house, but I did not think anything of it since this happens from time to time. Monday, I noticed the trash in the woods!

It was pouring down rain and I was going to have to cut a trail to get to the trash so I had to leave it there.

It was Monday, and Monday is trash day, so I was taking a load of trash to take to the collection center. If the idiot had left the trash by the gate it would have been easy. Instead it took 3-4 days before it stopped raining and I had time to get the trash. Nice and smelly then. I really wanted to go through the trash and take it back to his house....
A few weeks later the same idiot walked a good 50 feet off the road and dumped trash on someone else's land.

Liability is a huge problem and should not be ignored. Posting one's land minimizes liability since a trespasser is committing an illegal act. I remember CowBoyDocs story from years ago about the landowner in SC, who had people ride horses on to their land. A horse stepped into a stump hole, threw the rider who got hurt and thed sued the land owner. Another one was a girl, lets call her Jane, who invites her friend Sue to come over to ride a horse. Sue bring her brother Joe. When Sue gets on the horse, Joe thinks it will be funny to hit the horse in the rear with a hat. The horse reared up, threw Joe's sister Sue who gets seriously hurt. Sue's parents sue Jane's parents even though Joe caused the accident.
