killing weeds need help.

The field I'm going to put my food plot is loaded with WEEDS! I tried crossbow but that just turned a few brown and nothing on the rest. Yesterday I was talking to someone at the local co op who told me to use 2-4-d ams ( granules) and roundup ok so I bought all mixed with water in the sprayer and this AM NOTHING! what did I do wrong?.

Patience! It takes a few days for them to work, a week or more to kill.

First, Crossbow is a broadleaf herbicide -- it won't kill grasses. How many days since you sprayed the Crossbow? How many ounces of Crossbow/gallon of water did you use?

Roundup (glyphosate) is non-selective but is relatively slow acting -- you shouldn't expect to see any results for 10+days or so from the glyphosate. 2 4-d is a broadleaf herbicide and is an ingredient in Crossbow. It's relatively fast acting on some weeds, but you have to give it some time.

Also, my experience is that herbicides tend to work faster in the spring.

I use 3 oz. or so of crossbow in a one qt. sprayer last week. I guess my question is the ams I have is not liquid so how much do I use? since no directions were on the bag and can I use it with 2-4-d also.

Is that a typo? Per the Crossbow label, I use 2 ounces per gallon of water when I am spraying privet in grassy areas. You need to read the Crossbow label to determine the appropriate rate for your weed species.

Regarding the ammonium sulfate, check the pdf at weeds.nmsu.edu/pdfs/AMS_use.pdf.

Agreed on the glyophosphate, after a week you'll some dead, in 10 days you'll smile.

I won't say that the tank mixing of glyphosate and 2 4-d is a common practice in commercial ag., but it is not uncommon.

If one is using Glyphosate, why would one want to add 2-4-D?......just wondering.
