Lets just say I was approaching 35k pounds all together.

I pulled a bucket truck that weighed 14,000 pounds plus the trailer which was about 2,500 pounds with a gas F-350. It was a heck of a load, but an F-350 is a ton truck. My grandpas duramax dully would have pulled it fine. We haul a cat forklift that weighs at least 12,000 pounds on a F-super duty powerstroke roll back. It doesn't like that either.

Along Chris's theme, here is the most weight I've towed with a single rear wheel pick-up. And it does involve a tag trailer, just not directly tied to the pickup. Keep in mind this was off road, and for only about 100 feet. Also about 20 years ago when I was young and stupid (as opposed to now when I'm old and stupid).

We had an 86 F350 SRW diesel 4x4. Also a Mack 6 wheeler with 20 ton tag trailer and Komastu D41 dozer on the deck. Mack wouldn't start because of starter (tried jumping with no result). Had to get going as we were in a ski lodge lot that was opening within an hour or so. Was running recently, so it had enough air to release the brakes and would fire up pretty easily once cranked.

You guessed it. Rather than unloading the dozer to pull start it, I tried with the F350. And succeeded. Put it in low range, locked in the front end and pull started the Mack once rolling. I guesstimate about 50K lbs with that combo.

We beat that pickup unmercifully. It was dangerously slow, but tough as they come. I wish we still had it.

Huh , Yesterday . 2006 Dodge SLT quad cab 3/4 ton auto with 4 wheel drive and a 2014 12LX Big Tex Dump . Scaled going in to rock yard just under 11,000 , ( 10,800 + or - ) . Scaled going out over 23,000 . 12,000 + load of Granite . OOP'S . Fortunately , Only had to go about 6 miles over to My Moms with it , so took a couple of side roads thus kept it at around 35 mph. Was not worried about handling , pulled like a dream , biggest concern was trailer tires , followed by trailer axles . Thus No hard impacts on bumps or RR tracks . 4,000 plus over rated trailer capacity , But Dang , It raised it and dumped the entire load .

Never hauled Granite in that trailer before , so it was some what a learning exprience loading it . Granite did not appear to be any wetter than other types rock , sand or other type stuff I have hauled , Maybe just ??? Anyway , trailer appears none the worse for wear , But Know now to cut back some when hauling Granite at least .

So My second load of Granite was only 8,400 net , maybe 4 yards . This time it was loaded more towards the front , But had airbags on truck pumped up to 80 psi as were the truck tires . Again pulled like a dream . Got to my Mom's to dump it and it would not raise ???

WTH ??? Tried it a couple of times , Nothing ??

My Bro said to pull forward a bit since trailer tires were in a hole . Pulled up a couple of feet and He hit the button on the controller .

Boom , Up it came without any hesitation ?? WTH ??

DUH !!! I was holding the Controller upside down and was pushing the down button !! :duh:

The Controller might have an overload/safety mechanism that prevented it from working.

Just a guess.

About 4 years ago I moved from a warehouse to home shop. Had a lot of pallets of shelving, engines and loose parts, so I had to bring a small forklift to the warehouse, load stuff with it, then put the forklift back on the trailer and pile other stuff behind it.

Trailer was my 22' 12klb with side rails, and it was loaded to the hilt. Towed it several times with my trusty '78 K20 GMC, with a 250" 6 cylinder and 4 speed. Absolutely loved that truck. With a weight distributing hitch it would haul very smoothly...The granny first gear was a lifesaver.

Only problem was that once I got home, the drive down to the barn wasn't paved yet. So when I tried to back down on the gravel lane the trailer pretty much went where it wanted and took me with it. I had to winch it out of the woods at least once. :)

I really appreciate the weight advantage of newer trucks - a similar sized 2500 Dodge diesel has probably 2500lbs on the older trucks I grew up with, and doesn't get pushed around as easily by the big loads.
