Lets just say I was approaching 35k pounds all together.
No one asked if it was legal, just how much. Lol

Along Chris's theme, here is the most weight I've towed with a single rear wheel pick-up. And it does involve a tag trailer, just not directly tied to the pickup. Keep in mind this was off road, and for only about 100 feet. Also about 20 years ago when I was young and stupid (as opposed to now when I'm old and stupid).
We had an 86 F350 SRW diesel 4x4. Also a Mack 6 wheeler with 20 ton tag trailer and Komastu D41 dozer on the deck. Mack wouldn't start because of starter (tried jumping with no result). Had to get going as we were in a ski lodge lot that was opening within an hour or so. Was running recently, so it had enough air to release the brakes and would fire up pretty easily once cranked.
You guessed it. Rather than unloading the dozer to pull start it, I tried with the F350. And succeeded. Put it in low range, locked in the front end and pull started the Mack once rolling. I guesstimate about 50K lbs with that combo.
We beat that pickup unmercifully. It was dangerously slow, but tough as they come. I wish we still had it.
Picturing something like this:
