Seems new steel prices for just about anything from plate to structural shapes like angle and channel have been 50-60 cents a pound for the last 8-10 years. When scrap was over 200/ton for at least that long. Now scrap under $100/ton and new steel cost the same.

New aluminum for only a tad more per pound....not around here.

As of yesterday, locally, "light steel" like appliances, cars, etc. $20/ton. Solid steel, like plate and structurals, $50/ton. In CAD. The girl at the counter told me to expect it to go even lower.

I sold some a couple weeks ago and got .33 for 67 lbs of crushed cans!
$1.28 lb for copper.
The checker told me that the Mill has stopped buying steel!
I've got about 2 tons of steel but it's not worth the gas to take it in!

Wow, thats horrible.

Last I checked was 3 or 4 weeks ago and it was at $100/ton, so I decided not to scrap what I had at the time. My guy I sell to tells me its cause china is broke and they are the ones that buy everything.

Not just steel either, the non-ferrous stuff is down as well. A few years ago we were getting 280-300 for

steel, .70/lb aluminum, $2/lb brass, and $3+ for #1 cu. Those had dropped to .35/aluminum, .90/brass and 1.60cu when i called.

Wonder why the price of new steel is still as high as it was when scrap was $300/ton? Dont make any sense
I'm seeing new steel selling for $.32 per lb. That's as low as it has been since 2009 and it looks to remain here for awhile.
