Fence building with drone views - video

/ Fence building with drone views - video #21
My DJI phantom 1 hovers amazingly steady. I don't have any kind of fancy gauges so I don't know how many satellites it has picked up. I wish it had an altitude gauge and I could view the video while flying. Yesterday I was flying it through about a 50 foot opening in tree cover, and it took an unusually long time to give me the green light.

yea, 4 is scary! i had mine up filming the finish line of a 5k run, and in a 10-15mph breeze it
kept drifting substantially, like 60-80ft. i have done an advanced recalibration and will see what happens
next time i'm up in the breeze. at that time i had 14 sats so i was confused on why it drifted so far.

i saw your video of the fish, that was neat.. beautiful country up there bob!

I'm still in the early stages of learning drone lingo and operation but they are so exciting to use it's hard to resist just getting them up and trying different things out. Thanks re fish video... and yup we have, as I know you have, lots of beautiful territory to check out :)

I use my iPhone for viewing all the details including a live video view of what the camera sees. Biggest problem I have is getting a decent video view in bright light. You can get a DJI app (free) for most smart phones.

Took a look at specs on your rig and looks pretty impressive for the price.

My phantom 1 doesn't have a built in camera. My only video source is a go pro hero 3. You can watch it live from a phone, but you can't fly the quadcopter in GPS mode doing so.

I bought it used for $25 from someone who couldn't figure out how to fly it. He had forgotten to calibrate the gyros. :) Pretty good deal and a good learning toy. It's a lot of fun but I want to upgrade the camera.

Neat.

First thing I used mine (DJI Phantom 3 Adv) for was to check the chimney and roof.

Lately I've been practicing figure 8's to get smoother on the transitions. The new software supports POI, and supposedly once you program it in the unit will orbit the point with the camera oriented. It also supports waypoints so you can program a flight path, which will be useful for several more tasks.

The leaves are turning so should get some nice shots this weekend.

What kind of camera is on it? I would like to have a cheap drone to do stupid stuff with without risking losing the nice one.

Great detail. Not that long ago I would have paid pretty good money to have some nice aerial shots of my property.

It's just a cheap 2M pixel camera that comes with it. I will have to post a couple pics I took with it when I get to my PC. It's a guess what you are taking pics of though because you can't see real-time while you fly.

Even my fairly expensive phantom 1 can't view the camera while flying. The go pro can stream to a smart phone, but it interferes with the GPS on the quadcopter. A have played with the smart phone viewing the go pro live. It has about a 30 second delay so I don't know how helpful that would be anyway.

The Phantom 3 has Lightbridge link for real-time viewing. Works great.
ditto... love my P3 Advanced! Rainy weather and winds have grounded me though. Next mission is to check my gutters. I had a waterfall off of one roof today!
