The estimated price is $300, but no guarantees until it's done, but it will sure beat the $2500 Kubota wants. My brother believes te mice are coming up through the right front column, but we really don't know for sure. He is trying to figure out a way to block them, but bean harvest and other things are keeping him pretty busy right now.

I will keep everyone posted when developments happen.

David those loggers in your area really sound resourceful, we don't have many operations in our area, mostly farming or country hobbyists who live in the country. The farmers use to keep their equipment for many years, but not any more.

Sounds like you already got your problem solved but for others.....type "heater core" in Amazon or eBay and you get a big list of cores for under $50. You can also go into an auto parts store to compare in person.

I ran into a similar situation with my 2002 L5030 when the A/C clutch bearing went out. After much research I discovered that Kubota used the A/C compressor from a Toyota Echo in that years model. Who knows your heater core may be from a Yugo :)

May be moot at this point, but when I needed an oil cooler for my cobbled solar heating system, I discovered "used" oil coolers being sold by what must be NASCAR fab. shops, mostly in NC. Which got me into looking them up new, and I discovered a company called Earl's, if I remember right, that made them in every which size and shape. Not cheap, but compared to what the OP was talking about, cheap. I bought a used one on eBay that was said to not leak, but when I got around to hooking it up, almost a year latter, it did in fact leak. Couldn't find a shop willing to fix it, so I bought some aluminum solder and went at it. Luckily, it was where an AN fitting joined the body, and after 34 attempts, I had it fixed. (they are made by "aluminum oven brazing)" and Earl's wouldn't guarantee fixing it). This was years ago, and it still is fine. They are fine radiators, and would certainly work for coolant.

Update: Earl's is still around: here's a quickly found link to one of their coolers. Seems reasonably priced?

The reason ours was so hard to get was it had to be the right dimensions to bolt into a rather small space. I am sure it is used in something else, but Denso sure wasn't any help in finding out what.

TripleR, if you find any spots that you think the mice might be getting in, stuff the opeings with steel wool. The mice won't chew threw that and it will conform to any shape opening and stay put.

We sure will if we can locate the point of entry, still no luck.

Just a quick update, my brother got the new heater core from the place recommended by David_Kb7uns. They had to use the hookups from the original core, so it is aluminum rather than brass/copper. The price including shipping both ways was $280.

It will be a while before installation as my brother fell off a roof a few weeks ago ad is moving kind of slow. He had no major injuries, but is pretty sore and told to take it easy which is hard for him. We were both in the hospital at the same time, so no hurry right now.

He is going to put a wire screen over it to deter the mice. If I can get pictures, I will post them.

I think mice may leave a urine trail like rats. If that's the case, you can use an ultraviolet light to find where they are getting in. The light will cause the urine trail to fluoresce. That's how hawks and eagles find them. But not with a light. :) They are able to see in the ultraviolet spectrum.
