Backhoe Bad day: flipped backhoe, then almost flipped tractor...

You can buy a "blank" SSQA mounting plate in various thicknesses from a number of sources. The plate saves cutting and welding the "hard part" of a SSQA attachment. Here's one on Amazon for $144 (free shipping). Amazon.com: Titan 5/16 Quick Attach Attachment Mount Plate Skid steer bobcat kubota 516MP: Home Improvement I used a similar plate to make an item specific set of forks to pick up and move a 500 lb hydraulic man lift. The lift has wheels, but there's no good way to move it over non-smooth or paved surfaces. Moving it around with the tractor is a breeze (goes up to 30' working height so is great for cleaning gutters etc. bumper

Agree the boom is a fairly simple fabrication project when starting with a mounting plate but remember you can get the fully built tree boom from the factory for only $150 more than just the mounting plate. $295 for a tree boom is a pretty good price IMO. Useful to have too.

I am fearful of tipping over my 2465 backhoe because I am not sure my ck20hst could lift it upright again. The Backhoe weighs over 1,000 lbs and I think the pallet forks will only lift 900 950 lbs.

Yeah but you don't need to deadlift it, just pull it upright, which the loader or tractor should beable to handle. Still, not tipping the BH is probably still a good idea:laughing:

I don't think a KL120 loader would lift the BH to full height but you'd have no trouble at all lifting it upright as most of the weight is still on the ground. And, I'd think you could lift the whole thing a foot or two off the ground with forks underneath.

I saw a woman in Walmart like that once.

A healthy amount of fear is good. Just be careful and situation aware when working with your equipment.

Here's an example of another stupid mistake I made today. I went to move my hoe, which was sitting outside, but was in the way of getting in the barn door with my hog on the back end. I had just picked up my log grapple and forgot to lock it down in the QA, because I let myself get distracted. I went in the barn to get a chain to hook to the log grapple bottom 'feet' and to the hole on one side of the top of the dipper stick. I had the grapple up pretty high and rolled back toward the tractor and was thinking about how I was going to lift the hoe to position it better. I had completely 'spaced out' the log grapple being unlocked on the SSQA pads. The only thing holding the grapple was the curled steel at the top of the pads. I realized this when I went to secure the grapple in the QA. I realized right away I could have been seriously hurt of killed if it had fallen on me. I'm always safety conscious; my mistake was letting myself get distracted from the usual routine of hopping off the tractor to lock the grapple before moving it any further. Got off lucky this time.

Finally found the approximate COG, and heavy duty steel wheels at TSC.
Today I wrapped a 7,000 pound loop ended tow strap under the pivot pin area on the hoe, and then toward each stabilizer piston, between it and the station then under the boom cylinder and up to wrap around my pallet forks. I also used a 3" ratchet strap under the center cross support then up to the cross bar on the pallet fork structure. This arrangement seems to allow me to pickup the entire hoe, VERY Carefully, and without any sharp turns move forward or backward with my Woods 6' Brush Hog on the 3PH for adequate ballast.
I was able to put the entire hoe and subframe on the concrete floor of my boat bay. Good enough for now.

Meantime I now have 4 steel swivel wheels from TSC, that have grease fittings on the swivel plate AND the wheel's bearing(s). These should allow for more support, 700#s each wheel, and much easier rolling ability when I complete my platform reconstruction.

Time to call it a day! A hot shower, hot dinner, and a comfortable rocking chair, and a shot or two of your favorite adult beverage.
Thanks be to God that you and the Missus are safe. Tomorrow is a new day with better ideas!

Rest well!

Huh? The above post is many days since the incident occurred?
It relates my most recent progress in fixing the situation....

I guess coyoldy never made a simple mistake! I guess all his mistakes are huge?
Smile and save the good sentiments for when you need them!
