The wife is looking at going back to school for nutrition because this has opened up a whole new world for us.

Great, Then she can answer the question "Where do you get your protein from?" with the correct answer - if you are not in a third world starving you are getting enough protein.

50 this morning and headed to 61 today. Rain moving in. Which means I need to get out and pickup the tools I left out last night. Then it's trick or treating this afternoon. Really messes with the last late evening.

Time change tonight.

Happy Halloween everyone.

From what I have learned, you get protein in almost everything you eat and as a whole, most Americans get more than they can use. The thought that it comes from meat is a fallacy. But don't make me wait 3 years to find out :D

I know you have cattle, beef, dairy or lawnmowers?

Wife wants to know how long you have been Vegan, and why?

So Kev, I guess you're not going to be serving up one of your pint size steers for your next barbecue? I could never eat something I raised, be like eating the family dog.
unless there were 60 thousand of them and they weren't around long...

I wonder how all this publicity is going to affect sales in the supermarket. I'd sure like to see the price of beef go down a little; it seemed to shoot up when not much else did. Chicken is still 1.99, pork went up by still several dollars less per pound for similar quality cuts. Probably because it costs more to raise a steer. Still seems chicken is underpriced but it remains an excellent lower cost protein source. Assuming the chicken was raised under certain standards, and I see a lot more advertising with the
"all natural" sticker which we know means nothing, and this adjective or that.
chicken poop is all natural too...right Farmer? and lots of it...;)
The local John Deere dealer was gushing about this new wheeled bucket loader that worked really well in chicken houses. Not that I've seen that many around here.
Reminded me of Xfaxman's Bobcat versatool, or whatever they call it.

Good morning! 67˚ Thunder and rain as another line of yellows and reds pass by.

Ron, yes, that is the land behind the gate in the back.

(Rant for Kyle - rest of ya'll can skip, except for the new studies on Parabens - make sure your wife gets rid of them.)
Kyle, about a half decade, maybe longer I did not mark it on the calendar. My diet change was gradual, too gradual. I did not have a Dr. who took nutrition seriously, later I learned they have no education in nutrition only how to diagnose, do specific procedures and order prescriptions. I had to seek out the doctors who cared enough to find out that preventive/reversal medicine means more than everything in moderation. because, believe me, moderation does not work. The doctor that says "moderation kills" is the truly educated doctor - he knows how Americans eat. (Cardiac rehab is full of REPEAT moderates.)

These 800 studies WHO looked at have been around a while. Now we see how much processed meats, and a lesser degree red meats, stimulates cancer cells besides slowly clogging up arteries. There are other things besides food that causes cancer - just last week they found that parabens trigger the estrogen receptors by turning on genes that caused breast cancer cells to proliferate, the effect was significant up to 100 times for women who have a specific gene. My wife just got rid of her products (mostly moisturizers) that contain Parabens. When so many people get cancer (second leading cause of death) you know it is something we are putting on, eating or breathing.

(off soapbox)

HEB? I'm drinking that right now.

Yep, good stuff ehh?

Don, I apologize if you thought I was being mischievous in my questioning. I have told countless people of your story and progress to inform them of a way back to health. My sincere apology. I am very happy for your healthy heart and prognosis. My problem is within myself. When I was a kid I hated all vegetables. They actually would give me a gag reflex. Not sure why. My dad would force me to eat them. (Talk about a long sit at the dinner table.) My older sister was the opposite, loving veggies and hating meat. To this day, I have started liking a handful of veggies but I still don't like most. I have tried most and have been able to start eating some, but not near enough to fulfill my entire diet. My 5 year old son has this same dilemma.

Good morning all, and Happy Halloween ! 4.2 in rain in the rain gauge this morning, 64F,calm,fog and overcast. Rain is well east of me. Forecast is for come clearing and 69F for a high. Gainesville is having a airshow today, weather may mess with but going anyway, providing water is not over my low water crossing (shouldn't be).

Beef is high because of high corn prices and drought in ranching areas. Droughts caused the ranchers to deplete herds creating under supply. Corn will go back to regular price if we can get it back out of our gasoline. If you think about it, beef is just another form of processed corn. Feed lots turn corn into beef.

It might be great times for people like Farmer2009 who are in the poultry industry.

Kev, if that bull had gored my wife, I'm afraid I'd go after it with a baseball bat to show it who's boss. Probably wouldn't work, but hey, they command elephants, horses and other large animals with batons and such. If that didn't work I'd get a cattle prod.

:) When I was young, I'd have my plate eaten down to nothing but veggies, and my sister's plate only had the meat left, we'd switch plates when no one was watching maybe 2 or 3 times.

Kyle. I completely understand I two never have liked vegetables. Oh I eat peas and green beans. Lettuce if in a salad with 2-3 servings of dressing. :). Tomatoes but I have to watch the acid. I'm a meat and potatoes guy. I was married and in my 20's before I'd order a salad. Now when eating out I must becareful as it seams there is a preservative on some salads that make me sick.

Now my son is getting pickier on vegetables but will eat any fruit sat in front of him. But he likes his meat and potatoes also.

Don it's good the changes you've made but I must say they're not for everyone. Congrats on your success. Now I believe that you can classify everything in this world as a carcinogen if you wanted. The water, the air, everything. What are two things every heart patient, cancer patient, ect. have in common. They drink water and breathe. But what I'm not going to do is live in fear of tomorrow. I'll enjoy today and take what tomorrow brings. If that means eating meat then I'll eat meat.
