Sure wouldn't want to have to change a head gasket on this engine. I think I'll stick to Cummins for a while.
Thank's for the pictures. I've been wondering what this engine looked like. I am satisfied but not reassured!
Regards.

Yup me too, at least as long as I can squeeze out of my 2007 6.7. I have had a few issues, Alternator, ECM, covered by 60,000 mile Cummins warranty and just recently out of warranty I had to replace the turbo speed sensor, a $200. part 1 bolt 2 wires.

While I was replacing that sensor I realized there is no wiring on that side of the engine or engine compartment for that mater. Still pretty simple, besides battery cables and harness out of the alternator just a few wires going to the turbo for the VGT engine brake and that sensor.

Compare that to the ford, Scorpion I believe is the name? sounds fitting as it is a tangled web in there. Also like with a scorpion, I wouldn't touch one :(

But to be honest I will look hard at gas power for my next truck, I really don't need diesel, my truck is heavy but I could get by with gas. Wont have much left to argue about though :)

Here we go...

 I was thinking the same thing

The only thing about saying Ford has more issues simply due to selling more cars is that game can be turned back the other direction....
Several months ago, myself and three Ford engineers were standing in a service department while they were pouring over my company truck.... These trucks have had tons of major issues,
One of the engineers spouted off about how they have only had an 8% failure rate of the new engine... My response was that I was completely sure that each and every one of those customers would agree that it was a 100% failure!!..
You could have heard a friggin' pin drop!!.

That means they did their job perfectly, Planned obsolescence. You don't need every truck making it out of warranty to be a success for the company.

Sad but true.

Just out of curiosity, what service are these trucks in and what are the major issues. Three "engineers"? You must work for a very large account or your problem must be very serious to warrant three factory guys in attendance.

They have service bodies on them... Each weighs about 18-19K... Major issues are complete engine failures due to fractured exhaust valves, injector failures, HPFP failures, turbo failures not related to the valve failures. There is also about a 3-4 second delay from when you mash the throttle from a dead stop until you feel the truck try and move or see the boost gauge come up.. transmissions hanging in 3rd gear and forcing you to come to a complete stop to get it to reset(really fun when trying to leave a busy red-light... people behind you get pissed, have almost been rear ended several times.) Transmissions jumping into neutral while attempting to change gears.
And yes, we are a substancial account for Ford, not just us, but many of our customers tend to follow our lead for their own service trucks.. so the overall impact is very substancial.

haha.. but none of ours made it out of warranty before the engines failed!!!. At that rate, it would be Ford that would be obsolete!!.. Cant have that..

Well,
Despite all the bickeriing, those are some pretty cool pictures!

My 2012 PSD with 11000 miles on it, left my driveway on a flat bed yesterday. It started and while I was hooking up my trailer it began running rough. When I got in and gave it a little throttle it just stalled and would not restart. I'm pretty sure that is the sign for me to trade it.

My father and I have been looking into trucks lately

Duramax. Has emission problems and fuel problems. Know this first hand from our buddy with a 2012

Cummings. Dodge has a good engine but still emissions and front end problems. No good for a snow plow

Powerstroke. Haven't heard anything about the 6.7. But 6.0 or 6.4 head head bolts one time on 6.0 and do a delete. Then they are great trucks. We owned a 6.0 but couldn't find a honest diesel guy to do the delete

Some bright star at ford thought ceramic bearing in the turbo was a good idea , except when it takes out a cylinder and kills the motor , designed to implode after 100,000 mile warranty , gotta luv those engineers

I was at the Philly Auto Show today and grabbed these cut away shots of the new 6.7L diesel. I figured these are things I might never get to see unless there was reason to tear down the motor so I thought it would be nice to take a few photos.

I noticed there are 6 head bolts per cylinder and in the one shot you can see what to me appear to be the cross bolts on the main bearing caps.
There was no cut away to the lower half of the block so you couldn't see the crankshaft or the main bearings or the bottom of the cylinder walls. But nothing about this motor looks like a gas block turned into a diesel as someone mentioned a few days ago in another thread.

Sorry but they are only cell phone quality pics.

Which photo shows each cylinder has 6 head bolts?

I had chrysler buy back my 2014 ram 2500 with the Cummins. Front crank shaft seal leaked. Dealer fixed it 4 times. Still leaked. I think its the luck of the draw today. You mite get a good one which ever brand you pick or you mite get a bad one.
