Okay draw a line in the sand, get out the knucks and no Biting? Ford was sued over their six cylinder years ago, by Cat for patent infringements..That New Ford Looks to be an enginering marvel, they sure have added a lot of STUFF to the tops of engines?

I have no idea whatsoever how well that engine will hold up. I do know that it's got little baby parts compared to a Cummins.

Sometimes you wonder how a Cummins can hold up to such abuse and mileage so well. Then you take one apart and say "that's why."

What is the advantage, if any of the V8, that Ford and GM use?

Looking at the CAT and Cummins sites, it looks like they offer inline engines for the most part. Some of the older apparatus at our Fire Dept have CAT 3208T or Detroit V8's. But all the newer stuff has inline motors(Cumming).

Having driven older F25 and F450 with Powerstrokes, they seemed to have more of a gas engine big block feel. Maybe that's what Ford/GM want?

I had the opportunity to buy and drive an old mercedes 300 td 5cyl., 1982 model. I bought an extra engine from a wreck, and disassembled it. It was 3000ccs. there were huge rings and lands on the pistons which had a steel insert between them. The pistons has oil cooling thru a port in the bottom , fed from oil jets that squirted up from the bottom of the block. The connecting rods were extra stout. All this was so that engine would perform and hold up to speed when turboed. It produced 82 HP without turbo 122hp with a turbo. I have only saw these extra-duty features in that engine. Why do our truck engines not use these features to last longer? Maybe the V-6 eco-boost has them?

I agree with Diamondpilot. Makes sense you would see more Ford failures when there are way more of them on the road than any other brand.

But if you want to do the research you will find out GM is having the same fuel pump failures as Ford. Bosch has a wharehouse full of failed Ford AND GM pumps. Why don't you hear about the GM prooblem? Because they are quietly warranting them while Ford has been denying some warranties which causes those effected to get on these forums and rant. Of coarse they say it is Ford's fault.....but how do we know that those units haven't been caught with programming or other tampering?

So far the Cummins do seem good......but I can tell you through experience their big ISX's are a different story (read headache.)

Exactly! The biggest seller out there is bound to have a few more issues, since they outsell everyone else. Base that on the volume alone.

GM knows about customer loyalty, Ford only cares about sales.

If it was not for Cummins, Rams would be a thing of the past. Lets talk about the ISX, and their $3,000+ dollar turbos... Or is that ItSuX??

I was once told that the I-6 Cummins had 30% - 40% fewer moving parts than the V-8 Isuzu / Navistar Diesels. Not sure, but possible.

I doubt it, even if you don't like the brand there's no denying they know how to make engines. All their in-house engines are very reliable and powerful. Plus now if they drop Cummins, they have the second best diesel in the world, Fiat.

Curious what you are seeing?

Fire Engines in our district have been pretty reliable; they see heavy use under some poor(ie fire ground) conditions.

They barely sold 10,000 trucks a year , before the cummins deal, was make or break time. I really hope they ditch cummins and their crappy parts support. An Iveco under the hood of a Ram would make it a better truck. But I really think all the blind cummins loyalists are what is holding them back.
