There isn't an advantage to driving an emissions diesel. Pay more up front to purchase, pay more for fuel and pay more for maintenance. Then there are the problems with diesel winter starting and gelling diesel fuel. Since the introduction of the direct injection gasoline engines. The gassers are every bit as efficient or better at turning a btu of energy into mileage as an emissions diesel

Lets hook up a trailer that is loaded to max towing capacity and see how those gassers compare. My F-350 gets about 8 MPG towing a 10K trailer, My Grandpas Duramax gets about 13 MPG towing a 15K load.

The advantage is torque.

How is torque an advantage ? Torque alone does nothing .
What you are thinking of is the reduction of down shifting . The factory shift points in my 6.0 were horrible . It would drop out of OD on the slightest grade and scream up a modest hill in 2nd gear . As a 5 or 6 speed manual could not be ordered. I installed a programmer and set proper rpms and speed to shift. I have had passengers ask if I swapped in a diesel the way it pulls on hills.
How aware are you of the relationship between torque, rpm and HP? Do you know why gassers can cruise at low rpms then rev up to cover momentary peak loads and why diesels can't?

I never said a diesel was cheaper because they are not. A diesel will pull circles around a gas. Even with the higher cost of diesel it is still cheaper to run a diesel under heavy load than a gas. A 400 hp diesel can produce over 1500 FP of torque. How much toque does the 420 hp gas produce. My guess is about 500 foot pounds.

Can you tell us the what is torque, HP and rpm ?
Why are you drag racing with a truck and trailer? Do you haul for the Cannon Ball Run? Why do you drive like a mad man with the engine making 400HP continuous?
How much pulling power do you want? A few years ago a 318 was good enough to haul 80,00bs of freight plus the weight of the rig . From coast to coast over two mountain ranges . Now some people think they need 400+ HP in a pickup to haul a horse trailer or motor home

Tell us please how much towing has to be done in this light duty highway application to make the higher priced truck, higher priced service and higher priced fuel save $$$ over a light gas . Are you aware of the definitions of light, medium and heavy duty applications ?
