America moves by truck. Trucks burn diesel.

In Dieppe New Brunswick, Canada reg gas sells for .95 per liter or 4.31/can gal Road diesel is 1.07 per liter or 4.85/can gal. This is the cheapest its been in 2-3 years.

I actually typed that all out. What does this have to do with anything anyway? You said a modern gas was equally as efficient or better at converting a btu of energy into mileage. Hook both engines to a high load application such as a generator, and see how that claim holds up. My argument was never if a gas was good enough. It was that a gas could not get as good of mileage towing a heavy load.
What is the difference between light duty and heavy duty applications?
Do you operate that diesel truck at 400HP continuous ?
Show us the numbers that the difference in mileage pays for the higher cost of diesel per gallon and per btu. Show us that the "fuel savings" over how many miles will break even on the price differences between diesel and gas pickups.
What percent of your truck's miles were "towing" miles?
As for HP. Everybody raved about Cummins power and torque from 1989-2002 with between 160-245HP.And 420-505 lb ft of torque. Have the hills become steeper since then?

Problem of thermal lower efficiency of gasoline engine lies in the propensity of the fuel mixture to ignite explosively at certain pressure in the cylinder before the spark. It limits the compression ration to about 11. The problem can be overcome by direct injection. If the fuel isn't in the cylinder it can't detonate. It gets injected at measured rate at the proper time pretty much like in diesel engine. That way the compression ratio can be increased to diesel engine level. Diesel will still be better though. The engine doesn't have throttling loses and the diesel fuel contains more energy than gasoline per unit of volume.

We have to figure fuel in cost per btu as much or more than cost per gallon.
Gasoline pumping losses are not really a loss as part throttle operation may have only and actual effective 4 to 1 compression ration yet the exhaust stroke retains the 11 to 1 expansion ratio. To convert more of the combustion chamber pressure to crankshaft torque than an engine with an 8 to 1 ratio.
Diesels at part load suffer large thermal losses by taking in a full charge of air but only using a fraction of the available oxygen in the combustion chamber. The unused oxygen/air are pumping and thermal losses on the compression stroke. And a carrier of combustion chamber heat up the stack instead of performing work.

All in all however. Your understanding of physics and thermal dynamics is far beyond that of the usual "diesel is always better" type here.

You show us the numbers that support your mileage claim. Price per BTU doesn't matter. I haven't seen many pumps that read $x per BTU. A diesel towing does get enough difference to pay for the fuel cost difference. I'm not arguing that a diesel is better for grocery getter pickup trucks because gas is.

Paid $2.01, for diesel, at Wally World in Katy yesterday. It was $2.13 a week ago.

Please explain why price per btu or price per unit of energy doesn't matter?

Fuel is sold per gallon not by BTU's. If you do factor in BTU's the price per gallon is more equal because diesel has 11,000 more per gallon. Still waiting for the numbers to back up your claim.

Please explain why you continue to troll a thread about diesel prices.
Are your "several" tractors gas?

If you understood light duty and heavy duty applications . You would not have to ask about the field tractors. Btw why are here so many spark ignition engines are used in construction and industry . Forklifts, manlifts, generators , pumps, concrete equipment. Day after day, year after year. If diesel was always so superior gas engines would have been extinct decades ago.
