Wix vs WixXP oil filter

I took a new Kioti oil filter into Napa and had them bring out what they cross referenced to match . I don't know exactly what the difference is but the Kioti filter weighed substantially more than the others. Since there all the same price I'll stick with the manufacturers filter.

If you saw it you saw it but that means that it sucked the full length steel cylindrical liner that the paper fits against on the inside diameter too. Must have been a real trick getting all that through the outlet port in the filter adapter.

I only got to see one of the filters dissected. It appeared all metal structure was intact. All the paper was gone. Looked like mice had built nests in every nook and cranny of the engine.

Personally I could never see putting 4 quarts of fresh oil in an engine and leaving a quart of dirty oil in a dirty filter so I always changed both.

I agree. I've never changed oil without changing filter. Always change both. If someone is determined to only change one, change the filter.

I finally heard back from WIX, they don't recommend the XP filters for tractors. Didn't say why, just that they don't.

So...I'll go with a NAPA Gold filter or Kubota filter.

Here's a left field NSWAG (Non Scientific Wild Assed Guess). Assume that the person answering your question took the position because possibly he felt that the oil in the tractor may not be changed on a timely basis and some problems may develop as a result with your thinking that you had a premium filter and could extend your change intervals. Using a regular grade filter may help you to change oil more frequently. No reliability gripes, no WIX said this and that. Heck I don't know. Asking the same question, why does my Cummins recommend regular grade filters? I guess they work! So that's what I use but not picky as to which brand after my non-scientific multi-brand dissection study in which all the brands I had in my used filter barrel passed.

Well, from different reviews of filtration media I have seen, the synthetic media seems to have a more uniform structure than allows a better beta flow rate of oil thru the media, while at the same time filtering at a lower micron level. A lot of filters I have looked over the years, a typical oil filter will filter at about 20-21 microns. Synthetic media filters tend to filter at around 15 microns. Not a lot of difference, but when one combines that level of filtration with a better beta flow rate, it is significant. That is why I have favored synthetic media filters. I primarily use Donaldson filters, so I have no dog in the Wix hunt.

didnt they say that they had the same filtration rate? and level? let me go back and look at page 1

Seems so. Like I said, I am not using Wix, so have no dog in that hunt. I should have looked closer at the details in the OP. My preferred filters are primarily Donaldson. I was going on other information I had read over the years regarding different filtration media.

Well I went and looked and did not see the micron filtration of the two filters?

I too thought that the premium filters filtered down 5 microns or so smaller.
