Locks that can be opened in that manner with a thin piece of aluminum from a popcan can also be opened easily with a simple blow from the side with a hammer. I have done it. But not all padlocks can be opened in this manner. But many can.

As for the thermite breaching tool, it is fast, but expensive. My battery powered angle grinder with a cut off wheel is almost as fast, and makes a heck of a lot less flames, and is way cheaper to operate. It does make a fair amount of noise, but since I am not trying to be quiet when I am cutting steel I don't care.

Your battery operated angle grinder looses many "cool" points to the thermite torch. :laughing:

I'm sure that is too expensive for the average thief. A cordless grinder is equally as effective against padlocks and cable.

Definitely more handy than the stuff I used in the seventies.
