I carry every day, but very rarely do I ever carry and extra mag.

Revolves are more fool proof. Less to go wrong, and the simplest to operate. An M16 isn't exactly a concealed carry weapon. A semi auto handgun holds more rounds than a revolver, but does nothing better.

I'm not saying a revolver is an inferior weapon, I carried and used one for years, but more simple it's not. A revolver has more moving parts than a semi auto and needs to be perfectly timed to be accurate. The cylinder has to turn and line up just right with the forcing cone on the barrel with each shot, and they do sometimes get misaligned.

I still own and use several revolvers, but my carry weapon for a life on the line situation is a semi auto and I don't see that changing.

I don't. If I have time to reload, I have time to get the heck out of there. If I'm shooting, I'm also looking for and trying to find an escape route!!!!

2x what he said.

Absolutely!

While it it true that a revolver has more complicated parts and is is more complicated to work on than a typical semi-auto pistol, there are some other things to consider about a revolver, namely that the "manual of arms" is pretty simple for a revolver. Sure many semi-autos are pretty simple to operate also, but there is always the operation of the slide which can be an obstacle for those with weak hands. Although with proper training in the proper technique of slide racking(hint: hold the slide and move the frame) that obstacle can be mitigated somewhat.

So my bottom line is that both semi-auto's and revolvers have their place. I own some of each.

No offense intended either, but telling someone "be prepared to draw and empty the gun" is not part of any training I had in the Army, at Sig Sauer Academy, at any IDPA training or events, or in the training to become an NRA Pistol Instructor.

Anyone who is going to carry should by all means investigate for themselves the most likely threat scenarios and the most effective response, as well as what is likely to happen afterwards.

No offense taken.

In my Military training being prepared to empty the weapon is paramount, i.e., the best Defense is a strong Offense. If each round sent downrange is methodically thought about prior to release it not only endangers the shooter but those around him that are counting on support.

The mental investigation you mention happens in an instant and the reaction or lack of should be definite. In regards to "what is likely to happen afterwards", if that's in the thought process it will most likely delay the decision enough to be fatal. The most likely fatality will be the person who drew their weapon and THEN hesitated while doing the above assessment.

If I'm the shooter I'll be sending my rounds toward whomever I see with a weapon in their hand pointed at me and not "pinning me down" with offensive fire.

Back to my initial reference of the shootings in France. One well trained and prepared CC in that concert hall could have easily diverted and minimized the death toll. With that the CC person has to be prepared to face collateral damage in a crowded situation such as that. Even with that, the outcome would have still been improved. That's why I prefer a CC that is prepared to draw and empty the gun if needed.

I have talked with people about cc and the one thing I ask them , Can you kill him? If you hesitate on that answer, then you probaly don't need to carry a gun. I have heard people say they will scare them with it. No, that will get you killed. CC is a huge responsibility, but being mentaly prepared to protcet your life or your family is an important factor to consider. Once the trigger is pulled its a different ball game.:2cents:

I should have read forward before responding to Garandman.

Very well stated. I want you standing by me. :)

A revolver holds less rounds ,and is no ''better'' than a semi auto..

The reason I mentioned an M16 ,is because you mentioned home defense..Most wouldn't wouldn't CC a 44 either

I do agree that a revolver has less to go wrong,But so did the vehicles of the 60's-70's;)

I also carry a LCP, I went the minimalist approach, but I do carry an extra mag. Its so small, why not? I admit it would be a very slow reload, I carry the extra mag in my watch pocket of my jeans. I would have to switch hands with the pistol, dig out the mag, switch hands back and reload. Not ideal but carrying the extra mag that way is best for all the other stuff I carry in my pockets.

Located between Cleveland and Columbus. We sometimes get the worse of both places through here. That is why I carry 2 extra mags. Trouble around here seems to come when there is a group of 3-4 individuals involved, not a single person one on one. They act like a pack of animals when they have backup to assist in the assault.
