Try some facts instead of tossing insults .

The fact is there is no tuner and the redline is 4000. There is no need to go that high as it will be way ahead of anything you own anyway.

You just lost the argument completely with this idiotic statement.

I guess you know nothing about older diesel motors.

It's almost 2016. The era where the EPA rules without common sense and ULSD costs more than gasoline . It's been a while since the 1990's.

Came across a new article regarding the GM 2.8L Dmax in the Colorado. I was coming to the conclusion that this new offering had its roots in the VM Motori 2.8L. That seems to be correct. The chief designer of the GM 2.8L Dmax started on the project when he was at VM Motori and GM owned a significant share. When GM dumped its stake in VM, this guy moved over to GM and is still the chief designer behind the 2.8 Dmax.

Interview: Nicola Menarini, Global Program Manager and Chief Engineer, GM Duramax 2.8L

I didn't want say anything but VM is Detroit Diesel, that's the GM connection. MB bought them and use VM too. The 3.0 V6 in the ML and trucks are really VM. Thanks for article, I like it more now, knowing it's a VM design. They are top notch. HS

The 2.8L still has a timing belt right?

Yep. Not that big of a deal. The VM 2.8L in my 2006 Jeep Liberty Diesel had a timing belt. I changed it at the OEM recommended interval of 100K miles and it looked pretty darn good. Only time I have ever heard of the timing belt failing on the VM motor was if someone just procrastinated and let it go too long. Last one I heard about was at 160K miles and it was the original belt. We have come a long ways since the days of the Ford Pinto!

You are correct, Scott. VM was a collaborating company with DD, Penske, and GM at different times. They provide motors for a lot of platforms. Many of the same motors that go into the vehicles are also used for inboard marine engines. Strong track record.
