Armed Robbers Outmatched By Female Pawn Shop Owner

News clip showing two armed robbers trying to rob a pawn shop and the elderly female employee pulls her pistol and gets off a couple of shots, then the criminals shoot back a few times. Lots of things to see here to think about.

Previous posters have said that revolvers are easier to use than mag fed guns and that short barreled shotguns are good for home defense. I agree, that's why I have a S&W Governor beside my bed.

It's a six shot, short barreled revolving shotgun. It takes .410 shells, or .45acp or .45 colt.

I have it loaded with .410 00 buck. The 00 buck is 3 approx .38 caliber balls, traveling at about 900 fps.

At inside the home self defense range (maybe 15 feet) the shot will spread about 3-4 inches, increasing my ability to hit what I need to hit in low light, stressful situations.

I think it's an excellent choice for a home defense weapon.

Thanks, it started out as my wife's simple parkerized box stock Springfield that she shot in competition for a number of years, and I swapped her a Sig Saur P226 for it and had it customized as you see here.

I've had to draw my carry gun once and fired it. I scared the crap out of a possum in the process but missed twice. I do mean I actually made it crap also.

All joking aside, I saw some misinformation posted, mostly about caliber and ammo. Most of them were corrected. I'll just add a 223 is a pretty effective man stopper but can over penetrate.

Since the topic is "do you carry an extra magazine"...no, I don't.
The carry gun is a Glock 19 with +P ammo. That's a 17 round magazine and, as others have written, it'll be used as I'm trying to retreat. Being a civilian, I'm not going to go on the offensive if there is anyway to avoid it.
That said, there's an Ruger LCP (.32ACP) carried as well.
At home...if you knock on my door after dark, I'll have a 7 round Taurus Tracker .357 mag in my hand. There's also a 30 round magazine of 5.56 and an AR-15 close at hand.
If I'm home, I frequently have a snubby revolver in my pocket (I do right now, as I'm typing this).

I've found a 9mm is a great round for stopping an assailant or assailants. I have no intention of killing anyone, but if that's the result, so be it. There will be no hesitation on my part if I determine it's truly a threat.
One thing...with a carry pistol, don't trick them out or lighten the trigger pull. Any situation requiring pulling the gun will be stressful enough...you don't want an accidental discharge resulting from a tricked out trigger.
Also, my opinion...no need for a high priced firearm like a Les Baer, Wilson or similar. Odds are if you do use the gun, it'll be confiscated and you may not get it back. A standard Glock 19 may not be a tackdriver, but it's reliable and not that expensive to replace.

And here is my 2011 SV. in .40 S&W. Please note these are "working guns" with thousands of rounds fired through them not "safe queens" So some dents and scrapes are to be expected.

If my strength gets that weak, I won't have enough strength to pull the trigger on my revolver (357),nor will have enough strength to hold it in my hand after it fires due to recoil

I think it would be a better idea to wait until you get there before making that pronouncement...

A standard Glock 19 may not be a tackdriver, but it's reliable and not that expensive to replace.

Not to mention that it seems to be an excellent size to fit many women's hands. Mine has probably had more rounds fired through it by women that I have trained than I have fired though it. And that would be many thousands. Glocks are not much to look at style wise, but they take a licking on keep on ticking.
