The topic is a non-political question concerning carry of an extra magazine. Your comments (as do the responses to it) have nothing to do with that and are political in nature. This type of comment belongs in the Friendly Politics forum.

Sorry Roy but look at your own signature, that is a strong political statement in itself.

Any thread about guns...and 2nd amendment stuff is politically charged and is bound to veer off into a pissing match no matter where its posted.

Well stated. :)

The local Democratic Chairwoman has posts on Facebook about how we now need to take all guns away, limit magazine capacity to ten rounds, have month long background checks, etc.. Straight down the party line.

One of my friends asked her if any of those laws would have stopped the California shooting and if so how. He was flamed badly with some actually hoping he shot himself with his evil guns. The shrillness and hate shown by some of the posters was frightening. And this is in an area of Kentucky were nearly every little old lady is packing at least a 22 revolver.

Saw the guy at Wally World last night and he started laughing as soon as he saw me. Said he loves pulling the lefties noses but his wife is wanting him to quit before they get violent.

Back to the topic. No, I do not and will not carry an extra mag unless there is another event like the 2009 ice storm. Things nearly got out of hand then though people didn't realize it at the time. Lots of thefts but not much violence. Problem is that stealing somebodies generator or fuel could be a life or death situation for an eighty year old when the power is out for two weeks straight.

Also a lady in one of my wife's classes (teachers learning how to teach writing skills) told that during said ice storm she was working for the general in charge of the KY National Guard. She was screening the calls for help that the Guard was receiving. This guy got her on the phone telling her he needed the Guard to bring him diesel fuel right now. She told him that they had many requests and started to hang up when the guy told her that he was the warden in charge of the Eddyville State Penitentiary and their generators would be out of fuel in eight hours and when the power died all the doors and gates would open on the prison. Told her he only had a quarter of the regular guards there and no more could make it in. Eddyville has the worst of the worst in the state. My son in law worked there for a few years and there are people there who kill for fun. They flew diesel in by helicopter when there was less than two hours fuel remaining in the tanks. Normally I don't carry at all but anytime there is some type of ice storm, hurricane, snow storm, or other disaster you can be sure I will be packing an extra mag and an extra weapon or two.

Kinda wandered around in this post but had a lot to say.

Wawajake, there's plenty of regions in USA that still don't lock there cars and doors at night. I'm sure they're more the exception than the rule though. The big problem I see is drugs & violence, not necessarily guns. The sheer numbers of population here vs there increases the odds of running into a crazed meth head or heron addict. I wouldn't think your larger cities are that much different. The media bombards us with violence from across the entire world, instantaneously and somewhat sensationalism. Hollywood and the video game developers are also culprits promoting sex, drugs & violence. Gory stuff. So as keeping with the thread topic, I don't carry extra mags, you don't need too, I probably should, but that's more of a perceived need, not actual. I recently read you have a 80% chance of surviving a gunshot, 50/50 of a knife wound and only 20% surviving blunt force trauma., bat, pipe, large stick, rock etc. I think carrying a gun just makes people feel safer. Whether in actuality or perceived. Maybe in the Middle East they could pass a Law to limit mag cap. , and guns to be locked up with trigger guards?
Of course sales and robberies of clubs and knifes would skyrocket

thanks for your comment , I also read that article regarding % chance of survival of various weapons . Makes ya think !
I also think RSKY brought up a good example (during ice storm long power outage ) when folks get a little out of hand, I think then I too would make an exception for when I would see need to have guns closer at hand. (and an extra clip)

Good post RSKY. Covered much of the topic that's been discussed in this thread. Great story about the prison. Never think about things like that. Figured the story was gonna be someone too lazy to go get their own diesel. :)

I hope the animal rights folks don't see your post !

 I'm not to worried about that, absolutely no human on earth is more of an animal rights person then myself.
Has anyone given the correct answer to the question raised in the original post yet? :reading:

Well, back to the original subject. I carry a Ruger LCP either on my person or in my vehicle. I keep an extra mag in my vehicle not because I feel the need for it but just because I have it and if its not somewhere near the pistol then it is completely useless. I do not carry it on my person.

why are so many of you calling a magazine a clip? I know many use the terms interchangibly but there not and the correct terms should be used to make us all look as if we really do know what were talking about.

I think I am safer in Canada and enjoy Canada more because we have a much safer crime rate and the fishing and hunting is better. All my points were in regard to the questions I had about the "not talked about" risk of having so many guns in society concealed in peoples clothes or vehicles that might present a risk for the innocent folks around (like children etc) that might accidently come across said weapons because your laws are looser in regard to carry and conceal compared to other countries . We all think we are the best drivers and will be able to avoid those bad situations , but even the best driver comes across situations they didn't count on. (so too when you think your gun is safely concealed) But obviously the perceived criminal intent around folks in the USA that are determined to carry is far higher than us Canadians could ever understand, (even if perception and reality are miles apart) I think nowadays the media bombards us with every robbery and every violent situation across our whole country within minutes of it happening and the media is off again looking for more violence so they can sell their media entertainment and advertising dollar. So our kids no longer are allowed the freedoms to play freely outside at all hours, we dare not talk to strangers etc etc. sadly perception has us baring our doors and windows . Fortunately in small town or rural Canada many of us still don't lock our doors and cars at night , I go to the one restaurant town and know that even that stranger having coffee at the corner booth is not carrying a pistol under his jacket , he is not worried about me and I am not worried about him. When I need my guns, I retrieve the 410 from my gun case in my garage and shoot the **** porcupine that tussled with my dog, or bring my 308 up to my upper meadow and shoot the six pointer I am lucky enough to have access to. I am sorry you live in a country that has you so worried , I am just worried about the innocent children that might come across those guns and have an accident or have suicide intents that otherwise they would of had longer to think about. But I guess we are not allowed to ask that question and those statistics are kept silent.
So what about the criminals? The sheer deffinition of criminal is someone who does not follow or breaks laws. Guns exist in your country. There is still a black market and stuff can still be smuggled in from the south. They know no one has a gun and can do whatever they want. This is the same reason all the shooting happen in gun free zones, they know there is NO chance of facing oposition at first.

So your telling me there is not one crime ever comitted where the person used a gun? Most of our crimes are committed and people shot with long guns which are legal there in canada ( this ignores the issue with how accessible hand guns are there). I dont care how you legally have to store or transport them a criminal like i said already does not abide.

For those who think people in Canada have no guns and don't know how to use them and that we are just a bunch of seal huggers, let me assure you are grossly mistaken, and who in their right mind would post a handgun question on a Global internet forum dedicated to Tractors and then get upset with the broad range of opinions expressed. :confused3:

Let me make it super easy for those who want to hear exclusively from like minded people on the subject,

Otherwise, carry on as you were :m1helmet:
