Poured first cup of coffee. 45° with some clouds this morning. Heading to 58° with lots of sun (Fort Stockton, TX.). Back on the road this morning. Little less than 400 miles. Been a good visit with txdon and his wife. Thanks for your hospitality.
Good Morning All.

27 going to 57...lots of frost, looks like snow...crunched when I went to play frisbee with Coco this morning.

Eric, cool dog pix.

Ron, have a safe trip.

I've had good luck on Home Depot purchases...can't remember anything missing from the box in years. I do look over the box closely before purchase.

Well, my team lost the ACC football championship game last night...I guess I shouldn't have fallen asleep before it ended.

40 degrees going up to mid fifties today, rain coming in tomorrow.

Just nibbled on a bit of some amazing smoked pork I brought home from a party last night. Like eating meat candy. The intense smells of the wood it was smoked in, and the fairly dry but still good consistency, oh my that is good. The party giver made a bit too much and boy was I ready to accept a doggy bag for home. funny, when I ate my first bite I thought of Don and other Texans eating that mesquite smoked meat. It makes standard barbecue dressing goopy glop, but then this had to cook/smoke for almost 24 hours at 225 apparently. No wonder us Northerners want to move South...;)
Buppies it was nice and dry and lean and you could have some too...I'll go wave some around out the front door and see if the breeze takes the aroma North West for you and Wingsprd. Actually I think there are a couple of guys further West of me in the Research Triangle, the heart of NC business, but I don't know them.

I think we are all a little curious as to the membership here.
It really would be fun if we could pushpin ourselves on an electronic map but I also know we all want some element of privacy too.
I'm curious, have you seen anyone post from Utah? Alaska? Rhode Island? Maybe they are the "non designated" ones, fine. You know, the I'm located "somewhere out there" or one of my favorites goes something like "left past the red barn and back behind the old stump"
Thankfully we have Eric to keep our "English" proper, but it is great fun too to hear from the Australians. I wonder if like their road trains they have tractor trains...

And who can forget our new friend from China, the poor guy who popped up here a couple years back trying to do market research, working for a company that likely just copied implement designs of others and built them. he got such an earful of polite wrath over patent issues, and historic low quality. We were actually worried he would get arrested from posting here, though the pics of his family were great.

I wonder if tractor drivers in Germany will find out their companies cheated on their diesel specs.

I just stepped outside for more firewood, and pretty sure I smelled the aroma of smoked pork. Isn't that weird?

I know there is at least one TBNer from Utah...he ran a thread of building a barn that was well done, and set near some beautiful mountains.

Sounds good to me love pork never had it smoked though. Sun is really bright this morning believe will blow some leaves shortly to finish that long drug out project. The gator is broken parking brake second time first under warranty I doubt this one will be but it is a bad design.

Would be nice to know who is close to us on the TBN, know of a couple a county or two over or at least that's what it shows. Met one whose brother I worked with for a number of years as well good group of people on the TBN

Still waiting on boat info for two 33Silvertons and have offer on 250 Whaler see where it goes

Wngsprd with all that walking you do I'll bet coco is in fantastic shape

Wife is sick son is sick his girlfriend is sick hopefully can miss out on the fun

The weather gerus say by Christmas we are going to be extremely warm unusually so and even now we have some bulbs trying to come up

Drew:

Love the push-pin map idea. Like you, I would like to know if anyone is in my immediate area. I know TXDon and Kyle aren't too far from me (about an hour) and there is another poster from Weimar, which is about 75 minutes east. I stop in Weimar for gas and such frequently on my trips to Houston.

Good morning! Only 26 deg F this morning here in northern CT. Roy is warmer north of us in VT.

Advanced Search in the members area shows 64 TBN members in Rhode Island. Not sure how many of those are active.

Gotta go pick up chicken feed today, then haul a load of firewood to son's house. Need to remember to do CT firewood transport form due to Emerald Ash Borer concerns. It's wife's birthday, so we'll "dine" at Wayback Burgers. It's her request.

Have a great day all!

I think that timing chain is bigger than the one on my dirt bike!

Yeah, I was worried about the slop in the timing chain but the spec is if it can move back an forth an 1". It has about 5/8" travel. This seems like a lot to me. No wonder these old engines aren't real powerful. The modern version of this engine has a spring loaded tensioner.

RS, I have an extra set of gaskets I ordered. You can have them if you think cupcake will blow 1. At any rate, you're in deep, hook, line and sinker!!! :) On a side note, my mother kept a small 5 or 10 gallon aquarium for years and she'd sometimes just sit there and watch the fish. It was so calming to her considering the poverty we faced.

Some more history on the engine. It has about 292,000 on it. I put the obligatory lower intake manifold gaskets (LIM) in it back around 130,000, then it started pulling rocker arm studs out of their threads in the aluminum heads. First time, I just fixed the one, but the 2nd time (around 250K miles) I pulled the heads and put thread serts in all the valve rockers. So I got that part of the system fixed and the next weakest link apparently was a cam lobe (at 292K). I got a new cam and lifters to intall. I didn't take it down further than the short block because: It doesn't burn any oil, has a great compression check across the board, had a great leak down check as well, there are still hone marks in the cylinder top ends, and it did not make any crankshaft rod noises whatsoever. I put in many new parts back at the 250K rebuild. Timing chain set, oil pump, water pump.

I can only guess that somehow the hydraulic lifters were pumping up and causing the undue strain on the valve train. Anyone ever had this problem? These motors depend on splash from the crank's rod journals for lubing the camshaft.

I love driving the car as my commuter. It gets about 26-27mpg overall in my drive. I've put better tires and wheels off of a late model impala LTZ on it. It just handles bad weather driving really good. So much better than my mini van.

Wife brought me coffee with some non alcoholic Irish creme added. I prefer the real Baileys. :)

43 degrees here in south Texas, same as Vancouver BC.

Good Morning. 0805, partly cloudy, 51F with 58% humidity. Forecast high of 71F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 48F tonight. I'm at work early this morning. Margie has a conference and had to be in Bristol to catch her ride at 0715. I didn't have to be here until later, but seemed better than going home and coming back.

I did happen across another TBN'er from Calhoun County. As it turned out, we used to pick his Dad's corn with our old single row corn picker 40 odd years ago back when I was a kid. But even if we hadn't, we would have known who ever it was. 40 years ago there just wasn't that many folks here. Unlike today when the county has over 14K people. {It's getting too crowded for me, and there are 4 Florida counties with less folks}

You guys have a good one,

Larro

61 going to 74 and sunny

Ron, safe and beautiful Journeys, glad you enjoyed Don's

Wngsprd, I feel your pain. But I will admit I feel better having lost 20 pounds so far getting my sugar in check. Sure do miss cookies (this time of year) and my wife's pie, knowing she canned a bunch of pie filling for me this year. BTW, my team lost last night too, but we looked like a HS team playing a Pro team, we tried :confused3:

I have always wondered why people live where they do. Mountains and hill sides are pretty and fun to ski on, but how do you feed a round bale of hay to the livestock without it unrolling itself going to the bottom? Can't fathom how to mow, ted, and bale??? I see them all coming out of the baler and rolling to a central location. I have talked with about 6 guys within a 60 mile radius of me

Girl coming by to get her cart today, wife and I are going for a ride on the horses, then out to the shop.

Our Gator had problems with the parking brake handle assembly. It would not go back down when you pushed the button on the end of the handle. I took it apart and inspected the linkage. It needed a bit more standoff on a nickel sized stepped pin, so I made one and it's been fine ever since.

Hope your family gets well soon. Ours just had a bout with the crud, including fever.

I just got my flu shot Friday. No side effects as o f y ((-e 0u0 t.....

Both hosts of the Thanksgiving dinner I attended this year were sick. I started eating Cold Ezee lozenges the day before and through the next two, and got away with the sniffles for just a day...:dance1:

30 this morning and headed to 57. Currently 44.

Pond project is on hold again I think. Guy that has boat and was going to help me, got his toe broke by a cow last night. She stepped on him while he was feeding. Really need to mow the yard one last time. Was trying to wait for the finish mower to show but may not be able to. Other than that may go back to working on building.

Buppies. Can't believe you've never had smoked pork. That was lunch yesterday from leftovers. In this part of the state we'll smoke then BBQ anything. Pork, chicken, beef and mutton are the most common. I'll eat all 4. Wife turns down mutton. Deer is also good. Hickory is most common wood used. But if you add fruit wood (Apple, pear) you can change the flavor all together.

Drew. It would be interesting to see where everyone is but like you I can respect their privacy.

Kev. Believe it or not round bales do sit on hill sides ok. You just have to pay attention to the ground and dump them accordingly. The farm I grew up on had over 250 feet of elevation change. Mine has about 75 feet. At dads you get a full bale and let it tie as you drive to the top or bottom of the hill to dump. I have a couple of hills we do that on too. Then come back and finish windrow.

Oh how I love the pictures of the western states. Just a few patches of trees here and there but you can still see for miles. Here if you have a mile view you have something. Too many trees. Flat or hills makes me no difference.

46F @ 7:45AM. Showers early, then cloudy in the afternoon. High 56F. Winds SE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

The heaviest rain has already passed leaving less than a quarter inch of rain in its wake. Another blow'n'go El Nino fail. Maybe we'll have better luck Wednesday when They say we might get as much as an inch.

I was able to get a little motorcycle ride in yesterday on the new top end. Had to rob the spark plug leads off another bike to do it, and didn't get the fuel lines replaced like I'd have preferred. But that twenty miles was long enough to tell me that changing the fork oil to something a little stiffer cured the bobbing in the front end, and the higher compression, bigger intake valves, and cam are working very well together. Much smoother, too, hardly any vibration in mirrors, 'bars, or pegs. Except at idle, and a little work with my favorite screwdriver, 10mm wrench, and balance gauge fixed that at the end of the ride. Still too early to be really romping on it, but there's a lot more oomph over 4000 RPM and no sign of it slacking off at 6000. Red line's only 7500, so not a lot of room for a spike or flat spot if there is one hiding out there. Today I'll re-torque the head studs and reset the valves, swap out those fuel lines, and make a little adjustment on the handlebars and it'll be good to go for longer ride. Will need to re-torque the head studs a few times before everything settles down, and it looks like I'll be dodging storms to do it. Or maybe just go out in the rain, if I can make it up the driveway that is.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend! :)

My surprise was that he wasn't a pure Jack Russel, like his mum, although that does seem to be where his barrel chest and legs come from. With ears like his there is no mistaking the fact that mum's boyfriend was a Chihuahua

Jack Russell and a Chihuahua? Musta been a step ladder involved, too!

Hope y'all are feeling better soon
