Which pole saw??

Don't be tempted to do what I did and go cheap; stick with the known brands even if your usage will be infrequent. My bright green thing is horrible. The bar oil leaks out, the chain is almost impossible to tension, the poles flex alarmingly, the stated power rating is fiction so cutting anything is never straightforward or quick.
It wasn't money saved, plus I will have to live with this until it dies before I can get a proper pole saw:rolleyes:
PS: I secretly put in the wrong fuel ratio (the stuff I already have mixed for the Stihl chainsaw), in the hope that I hasten it's end.

This pole saw I set up for a friend to run off of his tractor. That way, he can stay in the
driver's seat and reach out to trim any branches he needs to. It's the kind of hydraulic
saw you often see the guys in the bucket trucks using. Of course, it's a bit more $ than
even the Stihl.

You couldnt give me a stihl 4 mix polesaw. I bought the echo extendable pole saw. Loved it. Would buy another one.

Echo 2 stroke and not a 4 mix pos valve spitter.

I don't remember the modle but I bought the large Stihl pole saw for like $400. It is a cutting beast and performs flawlessly but it's so darned heavy that it will kick your arse after only a little while if you extend it out to 16'.. Wish I would have bought the combi. Or something else a bit lighter. I run big saws but this pole saw is a lot to drag around.

Are there any gas ones that allow adjustment of the angle of the cutting head? I find cutting from the side of the branch problematic.

Yeah, that would be great, wouldn't it? I am not aware of any. I think that the best way to make
this happen is use a light 18V lithium-ion electric saw where there is no mechanical link down
the pole to the trigger.

Or perhaps a hydraulic pole-lopper.

Yes there is one that has that option to buy extra. I seen it when I was searching years ago. Cant remember so search for it.

Yeah, but the motor up top is a heavy issue. I dont see why the head couldnt swivel around the drive sprocket. I could make this happen. It would cost many hundreds of dollars of my time to make a one off. A mfg could spend a few $10k and put it in production and charge $100 extra for the saw. I have enuf to do. Im waiting.

For those of you who like Echo, they liked Shindaiwa so much, they bought the company a few years back.
Really good stuff.

I used to be in the small engine business world. Sold Shindaiwa equipment, to me it was the finest equipment made! Especially the saws. I own a 360 and a 488 saw. My pole pruner is a combi tool. Not as long a reach as the dedicated ones, but a heck of a lot lighter!

Forgot to mention, I also sold Echo. They make the best handheld blower. Priced very competitive and easy to work on.

Looking to buy (maybe) a pole saw. Gas, probably adjustable length, $500-$600 ish price range I guess. Brand names I'm thinking are Stihl, Echo, and Husqvarna in that order probably as those are the ones I'm familiar with. I've 2 Stihl chainsaws, and one Echo. Never owned a Husqvarna but I've read some good things about them. Definitely open to others as well
I'm early in my search and would love to hear what you have and how you like it. All ears right now..

I was comparison shopping for months and based on numerous write ups believe Echo builds the best gas pole saw currently available. I own both Stihl and Echo chainsaws and weed whackers and have been happy with both.

That being said I got tired of research and bought a used Poulan electric pole saw of CL for $60 dollars, cut off my problem limbs and put it back in the shed where it is sat unused for over a year. Point being if you are not cutting professionally you rarely need a pole saw. The electric is lighter than a gas powered saw and using my gas generator in the back of my truck my wife can drive me where needed and I am at the perfect height.

Good Luck with your decision.

For just a few limbs I am happy with my muscle powered pole saw. Mine cuts way faster than the one in the video on the first page. The biggest drawback with this is you have to cut limbs close to the main trunk.

I agree. My Shindaiwa 377 is the finest medium-to-small saw I have ever had or used, and I use it most.
Sadly, Echo dumped the Shindy chainsaws when they were acquired. I have also had the Shindaiwa
pro trimmer T270 and a hedge cutter...both used bizarre TK slide carbs, more like a motorcycle carb.

No Shindaiwa pole saws....

Efco is a good brand too. Made in Italy.

I had a very nice new Efco tophandle saw, and it worked very well. Sold it on eBay, since
locals did not know the brand. Someone should try out that Efco polesaw and report back
here.
