Concealed Carry Regrets?

In a conversation with a "highly educated" individual discussing firearms the statement was made "if you don't have a gun you will never need to use it".
I was a little dumbfounded by that statement. :confused2:

The more people who are able to defend themselves the fewer people will try to harm them.

Hey it's on sale too! That vest does scream I'm wearing a gun. Maybe that's a good thing though. Every time I put my gun under a shirt I do worry about it being detected. I need to get something small that goes in a pants pocket I think.

My wife got her concealed before I did. She had too many intimidating encounters by aggressive drivers. We once had friends who told one of my boys when he was about 7 and made a pretend gun out of Legos that "We don't allow guns in this house".... I regret having friends like that.

Your son should have made a Legos car and drove home.........

Even looking down the barrel of a 22 will look like a 12 guage shotgun

And the look in the eyes of the gun pointer is pretty obvious. If it's fear and apprehension, vulnerability is evident.

Have you ever had a gun pointed at your face at close range??

Not me. Not even at long range. How about you?

I don't see how that is relevant.

Several times, bullets included.

My comment was in reference to post #33.

A family friend has had his for decades... carried large amounts of cash for his employer.

In 30 years only needed it once... attempted robbery and when the two "Youths" saw it they yelled and scattered... you would never know he carries as he always wears a jacket.

Every year he has to requalify written and skill and has to carry a special insurance rider and all of this is only good for one specific pistol... any deviation requires approval from the county Sheriff...

It can get really complicated...

As many others have stated, my only regret was not getting it sooner. However, I think in my state (KY - which is the only one I'm familiar with), there is a perfectly valid reason to get your CCDW license even if you never intend to carry a weapon - it speeds the process when buying a firearm over the counter. When you buy a gun here and have a CCDW, you just have to fill out the 4473 form and let the vendor copy down the information from you license, pay and leave. No waiting for the NICS check. So on a busy day in a gun store, it can shorten your waiting time - sometimes by a lot. That was the initial reason that I got my license - I got tired of waiting when buying a gun.

Having said that, i do carry occasionally, but not all the time.

Good luck and take care.
