Good points, Axle.

Here is a video I found on youtube with a guy mowing using the R4's. Lots of turning, backing, etc. Solidifies my decision to go with the R4's.

Mowing with R4's Massey 1705

Nothing wrong with the mower but the operator sure needed to get organized. Random operation at best.

...I did notice that the Kubota drifted or rolled forward a ways after I let off the forward pedal. Reverse was just the opposite, would could to an abrupt stop when pedal was released....

Yes!! I noticed this also. Although I think it is something one would eventually get used to, I found it a bit unnerving during the test drive. The braking effect in reverse was quite abrupt, even jerky. Mentioned it to the salesman, he gave me a sort of "that's impossible" reply (??).

Most dealers are aware of this issue... problem is they are not aware of the fix for it. Not sure if Kubota corporate issued a official repair for it. I think there is some revisions on the new BX's. So it seems like there is a few variations floating around of the HSTs.

Here is some good info on it.

He's moving that tractor at pretty good pace! As for the R4's, in addition to having a bit more bite in some conditions, they just look more "tractorish" than the turfs.

I was oing a little inspection and lite servuce work on my massey gc1715. I was reminded hiw clever little items are . . Like the air filter that has a rubber dust collector that you push and it dpreads open and clears the dust without requiring any disassembly.

Clever little time saver.

Don't give it too much credit. All it clears are the larger particles that did not lodge themselves in your filter. This little device does not relieve you from the task of blowing out your aircleaner. Actually I don't give it much credit at all. I maintain my equipment regularly. I never push the little rubber hootis. :)

Richard,
The air filters I liked the best were the old Donaldson with the clear dust cup. Had one on my 4020 and liked the fact that the cup caught so much dust that never made it to the filter.
My experience with the rubber plug is it is almost worthless. All my tractors have them and none of them catch much dirt.

Same here.
All my tractors and my zero turn have had the little rubber drain bootie.
Never pay much attention to them.

I mow with R4's and I happy with them. If you do get into a situation were the tractor spins the R4's will dig in were the turfs won't dig in as bad.

I agree!!!! Those worked very well!!!! And the earliest ones were made of glass so they could always be seen thru. The newer plastic ones tend to get glazed over and hard to see when they are full. Used to have them on the John Deere Road Graders. Now they have a powered, swirling fan hootis that sorts out a lot of it before it gets to the filter. Which also works very well in keeping the filter from sucking itself full of snow dust!!!
