Hello Red Horse,
Ask your son to disconnect the battery and take note of its voltage. Have him check the voltage again after 24 hours. If the voltage has gone down the battery is finished. If the voltage has not gone down there is probably a short in the tractor wiring. See:

I'm betting on a failed battery... hope you find the problem.

And I don't get die-hards anymore. Went that route and it "failed" to perform.

Also after doing a little research it seems the 2520 model has two different engine configurations a later one with glowplugs/timer module and an earlier version with the manifold heater. Seems no one can pinpoint when exactly the changes occurred at least not by serial number but its widely assumed that 2008 and later are GP. but some say it may go back to 2006 model. So there is a slightly grey area there. OP said tractor was a 2007

Accordingly the engine number is the way to know for sure.
