Why there is no 22 to buy.

Well, for $75.00, a couple packs of kids pop-caps, and a supply of lead, you can reload your own .22s. Sharpshooter 22 Long Rifle Reloader - 22LR Reloader
Why would you bother? Anyone who shoots little enough to waste time with that would be way better off to just buy it even at ridiculous prices. You could buy 1000 rounds for the price of the kit. It would take you a half a day to reload 50 rounds that can be bought for $5. No thanks on that idea.

I'm afraid I'm not a very good prepper when it comes to ammo. I have a friend that must have 50,000 rounds of all kinds of stuff, but I just don't see the need. I actually worry about it going bad and some point, then I would have just wasted a ton of money.
Properly stored ammo last a really long time. The battleship Jean Bart was damaged using WWI ammo and a lot of 30.06 used in WWII was just as old. I have some WWII .45 ACP, som '67 30.06, and some 70's 30.06 and it all works fine.

The question of "how much?" Is a good one. Most of the preppers I know have enough guns and ammo for years, enough food for a week or two, enough water for a few days, and enough first aid supplies for about 15 minutes.....

I have recently shot some ammo with a 1 cent tax stamp. How long ago was that? They are currently 10 cents. I have used primers so old they came in a wooded box. How long ago was that? Anyone old enough to buy ammo won't live long enough for it to go bad.

I have shot lots of old ammo. 30 and 40 years old. 99% of it did fine. But I did have some no fire and some slow fire. The slow fire can get real dangerous.

it all depends on how it is kept. Cool and hermetically sealed, no humidity... at least a 100 years would be fine.

If you live in NY, you might have a surplus on all ammo. Two senators from Brooklyn want to limit ammo purchases to 2X the capacity of the guns you own per quarter. So if you have a six shooter, you can buy 12 bullets every three months. The bill is co-sponsored by a former NY policeman.

Here in CT you have to have a license to buy any ammo. Gotta love government control.

Aw, 'cmon guys. No one is coming for our guns. They are just working on closing down ammunition sales. if you like your gun, you can keep it. Just like your doctor.:) I wonder how long before some Left wing moron discovers that people reload ammunition. I can just imagine the tirade of sewage that will issue forth from their mouths when they discover this. And where in "heck" did they get that file photo of some of the nastiest looking 9mm FMJ I have seen lately. It looked like refugee war surplus stored under water for a while..

No surplus here in NY, I have had Winchester 22 ammo on order for 14 months! A certain type shoots really well in one of my 22's. 500 rounds was $90 plus 8 1/2% sales tax and requires 50% down. You get it when it comes in.

It's against the law to order ammo online in NY so we are held hostage by our local gun shops. They sell all the 22 ammo they can get for highly inflated prices so they love it. Not so good for consumers........still a lot of hoarding going on here on 22 ammo. Center fire ammo has started to loosen up. The good news is there is never anybody at the gun range, so I pretty much have it to myself when I go.
