If you come to NH Speedway I can tell you where to eat.

What is cottaging? I'm gonna guess it's like going to the "camp" here. I did not understand the "camp" before coming here. I have a friend here in NH who came out here from Colorado 10yrs ago for the summer (she ended up staying). Her brother who lives in Boston invited her to stay at his "camp" for the summer. She brought her tent, sleeping bag etc. Turns out a "camp" up here is a full on building typically with indoor plumbing, electricity, etc. Heck many of the "camps" on the big lakes here are worth millions! Mitt Romney has his "camp" not far away.

Yep. Up north they call it "the camp", here in southern Ontario we call it "the cottage", and out west where I grew up we call it "the cabin". Me, I just like to call it Heaven.

I take a three week road trip out west pulling a small camper and dual sport motorcycle. I get into some pretty remote places. I've also done 5 multi day (meaning 4-8 days) rafting trips down the Grand Canyon and Middle Fork of the Salmon.

We've been doing music themed vacations lately. Bi-annual family reunion where we play guitar all week long. One year we did a Nashville trip, which is pretty much a week or bars and bands. This year we opted for a healthier twist and went to the east coast for seafood and music. My nephew messaged ahead that I was traveling with my mandolin and the next thing you know I was invited to sit in for a set at a benefit concert in Chester, NS. (Oak Island area) Really nice people and good musicians. It was the highlight of my trip.

I've lived in several countries and traveled a good bit. Almost anyplace can be great. Some of the highlight trips:

European River Cruises
Greece and Greek Islands
Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand
Australia/New Zealand (especially NZ South Island)

I've traveled through 49 of the 50 states (just never got around to Alaska) and I could spend years traveling just in the US.

The only thing to avoid (from my perspective) - large ocean cruises - too many restrictions and bottlenecks.

We've got another river cruise and a trip to Turkey coming up. A lot of the International trips require a year or so advance reservations if you want to be sure of going at a specific time.

I took a three week trip to Maine & back this summer on my new BMW R1200R. What a blast.

21 years in the Navy... equals 21 year vacation seeing the world and living in some strange places... did I mention cruises and not the 7 day ones!

Not for my favorite nephew, he was on a boomer for 3 or 4 tours of duty, and never really saw much more than the occasional ray of sunshone, but now, his career is teaching radio and other elint operators as a private contractor, and he is making up for lost time.

His time away from home is now a few at a time at most instead of months, and he still spends most of his time working, and sometimes on a submarine, but he does get out to see the world a bit too.

From HI to AK, and from Hamburg GE to Ghana.

Now, we (myself and SWMBO) get to go to conferences necessary to maintain my professional certification, and tend to pick locales where the weather is sunny and warm, and dates when the weather here is the opposite.

We have been to San Diego, Ca, Las Vega, NV, Phoenix, AZ, and a number of times to Florida, including the Keys, Miami, and Orlando.

My wife could generally lay out in the hot sun all day long, but even with good music, a great book and decent cervesa, I get bored and restless, and have to go find something to do, so I end up walking, biking, kayaking, paddle boating or soemthing similar. Often, if it's likely to be interesting, SWMBO will come with and we have even more fun.

Except for those 10-14 days a year, all my vacation days are taken at home and used to do whatever we need done around here.

We spent a month on the beach in Gulf Shores last October. Month was cheaper than three weeks.

Got bored.

Wife doesn't dive or even swim but put her on a beach with a book or a Kindle and you can forget about her for the day. She is content. Throw in some good seafood and it's better. Bring along the grandkids and it's heaven for her. The two and a half year old talks constantly about going back to the beach more than two months after they got home. Daughter had to tell her the beach was closed for the winter. Six year old is already plotting next year's trip.

We are going to do some more traveling the next few years depending on parents, kids, grandkids, etc.. I would like to spend a month in Europe, maybe East Asia, Alaska, or other places for a couple weeks.

Have some friends who are quite wealthy. You wouldn't know it to talk to them, they hide it well. They want us to go to Antarctica on a cruise, travel around the tip of South America on another cruise.

Interesting ideas here.

I love going to the beach, but after an hour or so, I've had enough and I need something to do. Nothing wears me out more the resting and doing nothing. A month at the beach would be pure torture. I'd probably walk home after the first week!!!
